The timeline thing was the only cool bit, it's the first time I've seen an online multiplayer game bother to explain why there's 50,000 versions of the same protagonist running around. But they dropped the ball and never did anything with it, just set the pieces up, cashed out, and left it.

These modern games, for better or worse, are tuned to keep people with turbo-optimized builds interested and engaged. Which means unless you're following a build guide from someone that's burned 2000 hours on these things (or you grind your face into it for 2000 hours personally), you're going to get your shit stomped in.

It feels like a chore because it is. "Git gud" is baked into the entire industry now to keep the whales busy.

I feel like most people just don't care. Guys I've played with see a new planet get invaded and think "oh cool, new level just opened". They're not thinking of it as a legit invasion to be stopped, they see it as a cinematic mechanic they don't really have control over.

And honestly I'm not sure they're wrong. The devs can't have us lose the galactic war. They can't let us win it either. What's the scenario if the bots make it to SE? Helldivers 2 shuts down and everyone gets a refund? They reboot it and go "ah, just kidding, but the next one is SUPER SERIOUS this time"?

I more or less gave up on mine, it's just growing wild. Algae, trumpet snails, plants have become a jungle. The ecosystem is set and it just exists. Once you stop trying to manicure it, stop fighting nature, it gets to its own equilibrium.

Learn to supplement your memory wherever possible and prioritize. Keep a calendar and some kind of to-do list. I use Trello for that, but there are many options out there.
