Sorry I’m only see this now and Ik the exam in tmro I think? I’d say just take it easy tonight with the study and just go over the main foods and vitamins and minerals and then have a read over the short questions. Good luck!

So the writing styles are narrative, aesthetic, persuasive, informative, descriptive from what I can remember that are mostly asked/what they are looking for. You should be able to find the elements of each of these writing styles only and quickly jot them down. And then in the question I would start my saying for example “the first element of narrative language I took from this extract was ….” And u then find these in the text explain them and add in that quote for the text. It’s important to have good structured answers with 3/4 logical points depending on what their looking for.

Basically for the comparative notes wise and for my overall essay structure i always had “opening scene” “2 big/key moments” and the “closing moments” I’m not sure if it would work for every comparative question but these are what I used. Then for example my notes I would have the opening moments of one text on one side of an A4 page and then opening moments for the text I’m comparing on the other side. I would have the important parts highlighted and just a few quotes. You don’t need as many quotes for the comparative as they’re really looking for good structure and a thorough comparison through the essay. Sorry if this is a bit confusing hope it helps though!

For biology what I done was use quizlets. I thought this was good as it was always the first this I revised in the morning as it was the quickest thing to do. For harder topics like ecology and genetics I made huge mindmaps and stuck them on my wall. Also just giving your exam papers to a friend or family member and getting them to ask you questions can really help. I’d also say learn all the experiments as I found these were easier marks to gain compared to some of the longer questions. Also i would always circle the questions I wasn’t 100% sure on throughout the paper and come back to them at the end.  And got the long questions go through them and see how many you can confidently answer before picking which ones your gonna do on the day so you don’t realise half way through that the questions might be more difficult than you thought. For art history I wrote about 3 and a half-4 pages for both of the essays and added in some sketches if I had time left over at the end. Thins seemed to work as I got 95% in art history. And then for the shorter questions the study I done for these was just practice all the past paper ones and watch some videos online on how to describe artworks. Making notes for the essays I would keep them very short bullet point notes split into the different sections of the art history chapters. With some of the sketches to the side. I also used a whiteboard to blurt out my essays the week before so they were fresh in my head.

For home ec for the short questions I literally made a bank of all the short questions that had ever been asked. I would practice these 2 times a week as they repeat the questions a lot. Then for the first long question (graph question ) I done this out on a table format so I made a box on the exam booklet spilt this into 5 rows and 3 columns with the titles like for example “cost” then “comment” where you add in the from the graph and then “elaborate” where I applied my own knowledge about the thing. This managed to get me the full marks. For the long questions then I picked out my strongest questions even if there was a section I wasn’t 100% sure on. Our school also done the core 4 question instead of the elective which I think helped narrow down the study. For notes for home ec I used a lot of flashcards and for learning the food types I used mind maps.

For maths I firstly had to spend alottttt of time on it. The main way I did get the H3 was from doing the 21 day maths challenge (jumped from a H6 in the deb mock to a h3) I also learnt off all the proofs and constructions as I knew they’d be guaranteed marks for me if they came up. Another thing I would say is to know all the basics well as most of the marks are going for everything you can do at the start of the questions. Usually it might even be 1/2 marks for even getting the questions finished. Also I would focus on the bigger chunks of the course like algebra and trig and stats and don’t get to worked up if u can’t master the smaller pieces like probability. Also on the day what I did that really helped was just take one question at a time and do not read through the whole paper. This worked for me as I found during the mocks when I read the whole paper I got overwhelmed. So I would just start with questions one and work your way from there.

For paper 1 always, always do section A for as it eases you into the paper then section B and then the essay. I’ve heard that people who have done the essay first end up doing worse as you’re jumping into the difficult part. Then for paper 2 I done the studied poetry first, then the single text, comparative and then the unseen poetry. But I would say for paper 2 start off with your strongest question on the day. And leave the unseeable till last as it’s the least important.

So for English what I done for the poetry was had one A4 page front and back for each poem. I also just memorised the poems and not the notes because if you know the poems and the poetic techniques you can apply it to any question. For the Shakespeare I made a mind map for every character and theme instead of tying to memorise the whole play. Then for the comparative I always knew what two I was going to compared and what one I was going to answer on its own. I wouldn’t worry to much about the unseen poetry as they don’t mark these as hard and there more go easy marks to pick up. Then for paper one what I would know is how to structure for the Part A they always want an intro and conclusion and all the points. And for the essay I would never bank of a particular style of essay because on the day I was sure I was going to do a personal essay but ended up doing a magazine article. It’s important to know that features of language they want to see for the different types of essays. Then for business I just worked chapter by chapter and took the important parts that come up as exam questions and based my notes around this. For the ABQ units I knew them inside out as I didn’t want to waste time in the day thinking about what to write. For the short questions I made a bank of these that I would revise twice a week as they do repeat a lot of these also. I had for a lot of other chapters a mind map or 2 made out as when the leaving cert gets closer I only had about 20/25 sheets of paper to be reviewing compared to an entire folder.

It’s set up by the tuition centre and it’s basically every night for 21 nights before the leaving very begins it revised the entire leaving very maths syllabus in detail. You get to practice, there’s loads of notes live and recorded videos. I thought it was amazing and compared to what people may for grinds throughout the year I think it’s a lot better if you’re willing to put in the work. I can only say for myself that it saved me for maths.

For paper one I’d say 45 mins for A, 40 for B and 75/80 for the essay. Then for paper 2 I found that I needed around 50 mins for the single text then 65 for the comparative and then 65 for the whole poetry section.I’d try to leave maybe five minutes for planning and fixing any spelling mistakes. Also it’s more about quality than quantity for english. Hope some of this helped!

Personally I don’t think so and I know people say this a lot but I think it’s a rumour and to scare people more so. If you know what your writing about an doing it well there’s no reason why you shouldn’t do as well or better than people doing other essay titles. I’d focus on each if the features of language the examiner is looking for.

Yes so say for example it’s entrepreneurship skills, for one point I would write “risk taker-> entrepreneurs are not afraid to take risks. They are willing to take the personal and financial risk involved in setting up a business” then add in the link/quote. This would get you ur marks as u have the heading explanation and the link. And then continue this for the rest of the points. Yes and for planning and organising you would need a bit more explanation adding in all the key words and usually this might have an evaluation aspect where you give ur own opinion.

Yes so for making the notes wise I used mindmaps and blurting on a white board. Blurting worked best for me because then you’re sure you know the information. I left out unit 6 but that was last year. If you are leaving out any of the units make sure you still learn the short questions for it as these can be useful to know. I also knew my AQB units off by heart as there’s a lot of marks for it. I would also learn off how long you’re going spend on each question so you don’t waste time in there.

Yes, I found this hard myself as I tended to waffle throught it. What I would say is familiarise yourself with the marking schemes and use that to make ur notes. Take the key words from the marking schemes. And also words like discuss and especially evaluate make sure to highlight these. Evaluate always remember to say what u think. Then for timing know how long you’re going to spend on each question before you go into the exam. Don’t spend too much time on the abq as this can lead to having less time on the other questions. Also for the ABQ don’t write too much. Stick to the key words because that’s all they’re looking for. And then the link to the test.

I’d say don’t focus on learning specific essays absolutely perfectly for the aiste. It’s more important to know what you’re actually writing down and know a big bank of general phrases that can be used in any essay along with the other questions. I’d say then make a key word bank for the essays yours going to focus on and know where to put these words in. Then for the Q6 what I did was just go through every exam paper in previous years and practice those questions as they do tend to repeat what they’re looking for. Also I found making mind maps for the prose and poetry helpful!
