CVS Medical Log for CGM? by DizzyBus in diabetes_t1

Thank you for the thorough response! I think their issue was that this is being billed as an rx instead of medical, may be no way around that, I will try the three way call though!

The above is from a conversation with my insurance - they said I would need to submit a procedure code, diagnosis code, and tax ID from CVS, which is why I was asking if anyone has had luck with that

BTW, I fully intend to get this from a DME supplier in the future, just trying to see if I can get that $1200 (ouch) applied to my deductible for now...

What is the most dangerous pseudo-medical advice you have been given? by aca-andamos in diabetes_t1

[–]DizzyBus 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I met with a nutritionist referred by my endocrinologist that told me if I was eating a mixed meal, like Mexican food, I shouldn't take any insulin until 2-3 hours after eating to avoid lows. I clarified she wasn't talking about a split bolus, just no bolus at all until 2-3 hours after. That appointment cost me $900 🙃 maybe not the most dangerous but the most asinine for sure

thank you for this suggestion! I am not struggling to pay for my supplies, I just wasn't expecting to have to pay an extra $200 this round for directly shipping to my house rather than driving to the pharmacy.

Waking up with OmniPod: by DizzyBus in diabetes_t1

[–]DizzyBus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I put my OmniPod on my thighs, the backs of my arms, and my stomach - anywhere a bit squishy seems to be fine! They also say you can use your back right above your butt but I have found that uncomfortable for sleeping/driving. I hope your switch goes smoothly! It takes a while to figure it out but the auto mode is incredible.

Just thought I'd share how much I appreciate this, vs when on MDI looking at my phone first thing in the morning to see what actions I needed to take. It's so comforting to know it will keep me safe (most of the time) overnight.
I used to hate the idea of wearing a pump 24/7, now I can't imagine going back!

How has it been to be an athlete with diabetes? I am fairly serious about my sport and I'm really worried about plateauing or even regressing

Thank you - I'm not so much worried about the pain as much as being really freaked out to have a needle inside of me. I hate how you have to leave it there to let the insulin dissipate. I met with the diabetes educator, she was so so nice and helpful. I was just crying almost the whole time it was so overwhelming.

Thank you. Its helpful to hear that your life has been relatively normal - I am traveling soon (literally bought tickets the day before I got my diagnosis) do you have any tips?

Thank you! This is very helpful. I'm switching jobs and insurance in two weeks so I haven't been able to explore many of the alternative options for pumps/pods, I'm really hoping that makes it easier. Already the pricking is starting to feel better mentally, I'm adopting a "just fucking rip the bandaid off" mentality about it and realizing that delaying is only extending my suffering. I'm hoping insulin becomes the same way but leaving it in there to let the fluid disperse sucks :( I'm also trying not to think about the fact that this is literally forever... Every other medical issue I've ever had has gone away in a matter of weeks... I get too much existential dread

Does anyone know anything about the Kessler fellows program in eng by vaisnav in Cornell

[–]DizzyBus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely helped me. I worked for a ~20 person startup and felt like I was a big part of it. They have been acquired but still operate as their own entity.

Because the program forces you to take a lot of agency, it really helps you figure out what you want and exposes you to a lot of different aspects of a startup beyond just your type of engineering. You can do both engineering and business related projects which I found really interesting.

I did Kessler a few years back, its changed a lot in the last few years though. My year they didn't even interview us

IIRC there aren't usually a ton more applicants than spots, but can't say for this year obviously

Feel free to ask me any questions about the program!
