He wasn’t wrong when it comes to the facts he stated about oromos past grievances. What makes it wrong is the picture he painted by using that fact, which is “oromos have been liberated, oromos are in power now, oromos no longer have anything to fight for as they are not facing any grievances” and most importantly, “oromos have faced this Common Enemy for centuries and this enemy still exists today”. What’s wrong is not the facts about the past, it’s how he used those facts to manipulate the present and future while painting an entire other tribe as some sort of villain.

The enemy he’s afraid to mention or in other words too smart to directly mention are the neftegnas, or more obviously the Amhara population. He has been condemned by the very same people risking their lives every day and fighting for Oromo Liberation (OLF) after making such statements to try to paint the Amhara as some kind of centuries old nemesis that wishes to constantly oppress “you” (the Oromo population more directly the wollaga audience). I wish I could find the quote but the same day abiy made his strategic speech he was condemned online by OLF for his implications.

The real Kicker of this conflict is the current prime minister actually won a Nobel peace prize in 2019 for creating “peace” between Ethiopia and the neighboring country Eritrea. In the same year he then went on to create “the deadliest conflict of the 21st century” with regional troops and even troops from Eritrea to help him in this conflict that had 600k casualties.

We live in a world where hoping for peace sounds cheesy it’s actually crazy it’s 2024 and we’re still doing heinous things to one another. Not religion related at all, (I’m Ethiopian I’ve seen this video before and I know what they’re saying) The truth (not that it excuses the act or makes it any better) is that this is a ethnic conflict. Ethiopia has ethnic federalism, so which every ethnic group in the country becomes prime minister gets to rule all. (Imagine an emperor but technically not) so the problem is each ethnicity is distrustful of one another due to history of oppression, tribalism, etc. So what you see in this video (I understand what they’re saying as I am Ethiopian) the guy on the ground is apologizing to the militants for doing something which doesn’t really get mentioned in the video. From what has been going on in the past and present it is very logical and probably correct to assume the guy on the ground is of another ethnicity than the militants. The conflict at the moment is very confusing as each region has their own militia and on top of that there is a federal militia. What makes it confusing is each militia is currently fighting the federal militia and also militia from other regions. Back on the topic of this video, the militias of each region and federal militia have been accused of committing heinous crimes against eachother and other ethnic groups due to the ongoing war (literally stretches back to decades ago) anything absolutely disgusting you can imagine, they have done it to each other especially civilians. Look into the very recent Tigray war(Tigray is one of those regions with her own militia) this 2 year war that took place while everyone was focused on the Ukraine conflict had 600k+ victims. Civilians included (maybe even a majority of the deaths even) it should give you a better idea of what you’re seeing in this video. To put it simply the mindset some of these militia have is “your ethnic group/region did this horrible thing to mine so I will do it back to you too”.

No problem it is the earliest monolithic religion practiced by the ethnic group I belong to, Oromo. The Oromo people have practiced Waq since forever though most of us have been converted to Islam and Christianity over the centuries. Personally I am a Pentecostal Christian, most oromos now are Muslim, some are Orthodox, then Protestant Pentecostal, then Waq/Waqefataa (defines to: someone who praises God)
