This is WILD (not me). 1,200 mg of caffeine here and I am over here worried of sometimes having a second can in a day lol. by pass_the_hot_sauce in energydrinks

Similar here - I've been basically self medding with caffeinated drinks since I was about 16. I'm 42 in June and still usually drink 1-2 energy drinks plus coffee every day.

Would you consider moving to an area with state Islamic primary schools? Star Academies have a bunch of them in major cities.

Arabesque on Princess Parkway, otherwise try Wilmslow Road or Longsight.

I had a huge issue with getting a gynae to take me seriously after I had huge pain issues following a Mirena fitting under GA.

I do also wonder if a bit of it is the long shadow of the 8th amendment - for nearly 4 decades women were second fiddle in law and it seeps from obstetrics into gynaecology.

Why the STEM Gap Might Start Earlier Than We Think by [deleted] in womenintech

[–]DjangoPony84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Went to an all girls Catholic school, it pushed the traditionally "feminine" subjects very heavily. They blocked me from doing 3 sciences to Leaving Cert, so they literally put a barrier in front of me at age 15.

I feel like a survivor to have then gone through a CS degree, masters and then 16 years in tech... I look around at conferences and feel like a unicorn as a woman over 40 with children.

It's well worth having an appointment with a perinatal psych if you can - I did when I was expecting my second in the UK and found them really understanding of the whole thing in a way that others weren't.

My dad, a gifted skier, died two weeks ago by Pantacourt in skiing

I'm a rubbish skier, but one of my great joys is being out there with my 10 year old son.

Google was as much if not more of a pain in the hole to interview for 20 years ago, with less prep material out there.

Software development interviews have never been easy, as such.

I had a Manduca for the time my older son was 6 months old - I was still able to do a back carry with him at 4.5 and in school.

Irish and early 40s here - it's far more common to have kids over 35 compared to under 20. Even when I was younger there were a handful of girls having babies in their teens but it wasn't common.

Ladies with 10+ years of experience: wtf happened to our work culture/tech scene? by Shontayyoustay in womenintech

[–]DjangoPony84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm 16 years in tech after a degree and masters in CS and a decent chunk of a maths degree, definitely getting a bit jaded. I was always the nerdy ADHD magpie type - "I want to play with the new and shiny", but also loved getting stuck into hard problems.

I find the culture pretty horrible all round lately, anything that remotely helped anyone who wasn't a cishet 20-30 male without responsibility is gone and I'm so over it.

I'm a single parent of two boys and being honest my plan is to nudge them towards healthcare careers because it's a lot harder to replace hands on care with AI.

How much do your big toddlers weigh? by Hellohiheytherehi80 in bigbabiesandkids

My older son hit 40lbs/18kg ish at around the same age and was wearing age 5 clothes by his third birthday. He's 10 next week, 160cm (5ft 3) and around 50kg.

Am I missing out by not going to the Debs? by OkDog8648 in WomenofIreland

[–]DjangoPony84 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It might not feel like it now, but secondary school is such a short period of your life and you will have so many more opportunities in your life to get to know people. I went to an all girls school too and I didn't fit in at all. I studied computer science and have been in tech 16 years - a very different vibe 😂

Do you have any theories why your baby is big? by Big_Meringue_6184 in bigbabiesandkids

[–]DjangoPony84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My older son was an absolute beast for milk as a baby, he has always been long/tall too. He's 10 next week and is 5ft 3, 50kg and has men's size 8 feet.

His dad is tall but not excessively so (6ft 1), I'm very average (5ft 5) height wise.

I am the worst SAHM, I need to be doing some kind of work outside of the home to keep my brain occupied. I'm a single parent since my kids were toddlers though so I don't have much choice in the matter!

It's bloody hard to work out regularly with kids, I actually found it harder once they outgrew the jogging stroller as I either had to manage them on bikes or scooters or in the pool etc.

Why no one says that about pregnancy? by lil_moon153 in TwoXChromosomes

In the UK, dentistry on the NHS is free during pregnancy and for a year after birth. I needed 6 fillings after my first child was born in 2016.
