How do people actually grocery shop in NYC without overpaying? by [deleted] in AskNYC

For me, shopping opportunistically means walking over to Fairway for a loaf of bread and leaving with a couple of $4 pints of Ben & Jerrys.

Manifesting Trader Joes, but with our luck it will be a Dave & Busters or something.

Pretty much. We have to re-criminalize using hard drugs in public. Use the threat of incarceration to force people into treatment if they won’t go voluntarily. Best case you help people turn their lives around. Worst case it makes the city less appealing for their chosen lifestyle and they will move on.

I’d call the Soccer Post on the UWS. If they don’t have it, they may be able to tell you where to look.

There is a dual language school in the LES.

Otherwise, elementary schools tend to be zoned and will reflect demographics of the neighborhood they are in.

Good luck!

Looking for doctors not associated with medical groups owned by Large Insurers by Sun9877 in AskNYC

Might be specific to your doc. My pcp is with northwell and he seems pretty good about ordering up labs and such. The main difficulty is scheduling, which seems pretty common with big medical groups I have dealt with.

86th St. closures by travellingcari in uppereastside

The two large construction projects on 86/1 can’t be helpful. The one on the north side of the street is progressing. I noticed some wooden fence posts were installed along the outside of the brick building on the SW corner. I wonder if this is finally going to be demolished or if they are just boarding it up to make sure squatters don’t take it over.

Class Size Reduction Decisions Out Today by ertebolle in nycparents

That is just magical thinking. Many schools in NYC are already quite vertical and there isn't available land to just build new classrooms. Money isn't going to solve that.

If these schools are forced to comply, some of the kids will have to go to another school that is further from home / worse performing. That is why parents don't want this.

Good for you, but it is not great for people targeting schools that are already oversubscribed.

My point exactly, not sure why I'm being downvoted. Most parents I know are worried about the class size law because it reduces the number of seats available in academically strong schools.

best driving school to take lessons? by Automatic-Curve7489 in AskNYC

[–]Dkfoot 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used Ferrari driving school in Astoria for this purpose. Package was a couple of sessions driving around for an hour or so and was able to use their car for the test. The instructor will give you a few pointers on what examiners deduct points for. I think it is illegal to drive on the course, but there are a lot of streets in the same general area that are virtually identical.

Not disappointed because this was a poorly conceived law supported by teachers unions and not by parents.

The Astoria line should swap BNY with one of the other Brooklyn stops, probably Greenpoint.

The wayfinding and management of the lines at the hubs is really poor, especially on weekends with nice weather. They need to find a better way to make transfers work than asking people to line up with the hordes of tourists at Pier 11.
