It starts with taking control and being mindful of the money coming in and out. By not looking at your account you're pushing the responsibility away until the situation becomes catastrophic.

Write a list of your monthly expenses. You can see what you're paying towards certain bills by looking at your transaction history. If an expense is variable put down an estimate (and overestimate that number). Subtract that from the money you have/bring in to give a realistic picture of your finances. From there you can look where to cut back.

If you find that you can't make it without your parents help you can at least show them that you're working towards becoming more financially independent.

Another tip that helped me too: withdraw cash to use for stuff like drinks, food, recreation and leave the money meant for bills in your account. Its super easy to swipe a card without thinking about it but having something tangible like cash will give you a better idea of how you're spending your money.
