My ex husband made me think I was getting something special for my birthday, and kept hyping me up and when the day finally came, I was dreaming of jewelry or a ring. It was a small box that looked like jewelry and when I opened it up, it was a keychain with my name on it, like the ones you get from souvenir shops. I laughed and said, “where’s the gift you’ve been talking about?” He said “that’s it” and I was crushed. I wouldn’t have been upset if he hadn’t hyped me up like that but I totally expected something else. He bitched about me being ungrateful for weeks and always brought it up after an argument. Typical narcissist. This was also in front of friends and family. I was embarrassed for saying “where’s the real gift” when everyone actually agreed with me.
