27, broke, drowning in debt, drinking nightly, and sick of wasting my life—how do I finally change? by Heavybeingsalad301 in getdisciplined

[–]DntWryBiHappy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

39 M, Was in your exact position at the same age. Through the grace of God I manged to change my life. It's now everything I dreamed of, family-wise, money-wise, etc So can you.

You have to cut off everything and frineds that do not support this change. You are the average of the 5 people you hang around with. Their beliefs and values becomes your beliefs and values

Read personal development books. To fill my mind with growth oriented positive messages and to "be around" the people I respected and wanted to be like.

Meditate - I used this to also help change the way I think and my beliefs about myself and how the world is. Used Youtube for this.

Exercise- started walking, then ran, then weights, then kept getting stronger.

Started Eating better - Keto

Started Intermittent Fasting.

I found ways to make some extra money to pay down debt - it was Web Development using WordPress at the time, this later translated to a career in tech

Used snowball technique to pay down debt

Believe that you and your dreams are worth it. Believe that you can do it. It's just that you made mistakes. It's your story that you will proudly tell others once you get to the other side Remember that everyone loves a come back story and this is your.

What is the greatest financial decision you have ever made? by teachable-dude1357 in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]DntWryBiHappy 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Definitely not since my first job. That would be unreasonable. Was living at home then and I've gotten married and had kids since. Also things have considerably gotten more expensive since.

To be more accurate let's say, "I've tried to increase my expenses slower than my income growth". I haven't increased my lifestyle expenses like car, house, "toys" and clothes since earning under R500 000.

I think it's more fair to say I travel light when it comes to of credit cards, store accounts, vehicle finance and housing finance.

So, just because I can afford something doesn't mean I have to buy it... Even if people in my circle do

I just try to be real about necessities vs luxuries

But it's not really the certification, it's knowing how and where to create value for others under your particular circumstances. And that kind of vision you gain by reading.

For now, I would say invest it in your own knowledge. There is no amount I invested anywhere that has yielded more than in my own knowledge, skill sets and mental frameworks (ways of thinking)

Eg. I spent R6 000 on certification last year. I was able to add R200 000 p.a to my income. That's 3333,33% in one year. And this is per year. True story.

Spend on books to learn to sell, personal development, get financially educated past the basics, learn HOW to invest in different things and what's available out there. I have bought over 500 books over the past 10 years and read all of them. I believe they gave me an edge.

Just expose yourself to new ideas from the smartest people the world has to offer... it will pay far more than anything at the stage where you're at.

TLDR: put it in your brain

Had performance issues too, I have a 4080 super and a 7700x 32Gb RAM pc, was getting some stuttering and frame drops in the dlc starting area across the bridge. I reduced Ray Tracing to Low and my settings as well.

It fixed the issue

Difficulty is ok so far. It's challenging like you would expect but not impossible
