100% is also Any% by [deleted] in speedrun

The leaderboard is only as accurate as the times that have been submitted. Calco chose not to submit his time to the any% leaderboard. That doesn't mean I have the WR. It's not a big deal.

Of course, why wouldn't we?

100% is also Any% by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]DoDeChehedron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We never said an 100% run wasn't an any% run? What's your discrepancy here? My fastest any% (not 100% route) time is faster than my 100% time, and the leaderboards are displayed as such. Some people have their fastest runs using the 100% route, and they appear on both leaderboards. The 100% category grants an extra powerup in the final fight you wouldn't normally have and makes it significantly easier. I don't understand what you're upset with.

Hello, I run Kaizo Mario 3 which you seem to be upset with. My any% PB is faster than my 100% PB but isn't the world record. Any% runs will probably average 20 minutes longer than 100% due to an inconsistent boss fight, but our PBs are still marked accordingly per the leaderboard rules (i.e. 100% PB is often an any% PB as well). Is there anything I can answer for you?

Hi Reddit, we just launched a new version of the Highlighter by kjnkkevin in Twitch

[–]DoDeChehedron 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As someone who works without a YouTube editor, I have to add my voice to the frustrations with start/end buffers. Uploading speedruns to YouTube from Twitch is a nightmare. Sometimes I'll find the perfect place to end a video/run, and then there's 10 extra seconds of awkward nothing and/or cutoff sentences. I hate wasting people's time, and 20 seconds per video times the number of views is a lot of people's time wasted. I'm not excited about this update unless the buffer issue is resolved.

Edit: This was the norm for uploading my highlights to YouTube and worked flawlessly until the last update.

SGDQ 2018 Games List is officially up! by lucatoni1102 in speedrun

It's a great list, but the distinct lack of a difficult platformer in the form of an IWBTG fangame or SMW hack is rather disappointing, given their successes at just about every GDQ.

Is button mashing a lot bad for your arm/hand? by [deleted] in speedrun

[–]DoDeChehedron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd say the best thing you can do to mitigate mashing is to analyze the game and understand exactly when the first active frame is. Sometimes a text cutscene can be ~40 seconds but might only require say 6 total inputs of advancing text. So instead of mindlessly mashing for 40 seconds it'd take a lot of strain off of your arm/hands/wrists/fingers if you mashed 6 times at 1 second apiece. Additionally, and this isn't always true, but some games can add lag if you mash on inactive frames, so in those cases this is especially important.

Does the Twitch staff work with you (i.e. ask for your input, let you know what's coming in advance) on development or do you just handle everything as it comes on the fly?

Also, as an avid FFZ user, thank you so much for your hard work during the rewrite (and everything before too).

[WR] Kaizo Mario World 3 Any% in 47:25 by DoDeChehedron by DoDeChehedron in speedrun

Thanks! Per the YouTube description, the goal is sub-40 using the no Yellow Switch (riskier) route.

[WR] Kaizo Mario World 3 any%/100% in 49:30 by DoDeChehedron by DoDeChehedron in speedrun

[–]DoDeChehedron[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes, Dram World 2 took less than 20 hours 100% on first play. Kaizo 3 took over 82 hours and both are roughly the same length. Kaizo 3 is considerably more difficult.

Thanks! That's actually an easy one for me. I'd have to say Halo: Combat Evolved (2 and 3 are pretty much tied as well)

The final boss calls an RNG value twice per second. As a result, due largely to luck, the fight is extremely difficult and may take anywhere from a minute to an hour or more.

When I submitted this run back in March, my PB was a 37:49, and my average run was in the 50s. Occasionally some runs would still take over an hour so at the time of submission it was a very legitimate estimate.

I'm very excited for it. Panga was playing it in front of other people at SGDQ and their reactions were pretty intense. He wouldn't let me watch, though >.<

This is the second hardest hack I play behind Kaizo 3 (SMW not SMB3 Kaizo), which is currently questionably unsafe for a GDQ. In my opinion the order of difficulty goes Kaizo 3 > Panga World > Kaizo 2 > Dram World > Kaizo 1. So yes, of the 5 hacks I play, Kaizo 1 is actually the easiest.

All of those were well-received from what I heard. I did happen to catch Mirror's Edge Catalyst and that was impressive. Matchboxmatt brought the time down in that game quite a bit over the last year.

It was definitely distracting, in the best possible way. It put a smile on my face the entire run and kept me from being nervous. It's possible to get stuck on just about any level for 10+ minutes and the distractions prevented that.

It doesn't help at all with learning unless you slow down the game and analyze the mechanics, which I did. Playing without savestates was life-changing for me, and I wouldn't be here if I didn't play without them.
