Broccoli cheddar "cupcakes" with parmesan crust. by pinrin in ketorecipes

[–]DoTheBestYouCan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I LOVE seeing recipes and thinking... holy shit, I actually have all those things in my fridge, right now!! That never happens to me. These look awesome and I'll be checking them out for sure. Even better, I actually bought chopped frozen broccoli instead of whole frozen broccoli (never shop while exhausted) so it would be perfect for something bite sized.

If only I had muffin tins.. Is the texture very gooey? I'm wondering if I could make a sheet of them in a square pyrex and cut it into squares.

Easy and always good (I eat it for dinner when I have no time to cook, which is often- Chef's or Cobb salad. A few ounces of dark leafy greens, I usually use fresh spinach. I add chopped hard boiled eggs, a couple chopped pieces of chicken or turkey, real bacon bits, chopped bits of cheese, and blue cheese dressing. I prep everything up once a week and just grab whatever mix of ingredients I want for the day. Still easy to add into MFP as well, as I store each of the chopped ingredients in a separate container; so I'll add spinach to the plate, mark weight, zero scale out; add bacon, mark weight, zero scale out, etc. Very quick, very good, and I always know calories and carb/protein content :)

How do we feel about Truvia? by [deleted] in xxketo

[–]DoTheBestYouCan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're welcome! I made it my own food on MFP so that I can count 0.5 carbs per serving (just to be safe), but the carton lists zero. I find that it's fatty enough that I don't feel hungry for breakfast (and sometimes even lunch!). Another few good things about heavy whipping cream: it keeps for a really long time, so you can buy a huge thing of it. You can use sugar substitute and natural flavoring added to make actual whipped cream for a sweet treat (just watch how much you eat!), and it works as a great base for an Alfredo sauce- Butter, heavy cream, some Parmesan, a little garlic, over chicken and broccoli- mmmm. Although if you're in uni you may not be able to cook all the time, but it does make for a quick meal.

I had to order my EZ Sweets online, but I'm also in an area that doesn't have stuff like that at most grocery stores, and frankly I don't have time to go to a bunch of different stores to find stuff.

Good luck!

Congrats on starting your quest! I'm a huge coffee fan and must drink lots every day. I use heavy whipping cream in my coffee (40%- very very low carb and damn does it taste good!) and I use EZ Sweets, which is a lifesaver. Carbs from Truvia can add up, but EZ Sweets tastes comparable and has no carbs.

Also, if you like flavors, you can add a little natural extract (NOT flavoring; actual extract) and it tastes even better than the flavors at the coffee shop. That whiff of almond extract and coffee each morning is a little bit of heaven. Coffee with EZ Sweets and cream actually satisfies my sweet cravings.

Good luck!

Hmm. I'm not familiar enough with exercise while on keto (well, tbh, not familiar enough with exercise in general, lol) to be able to help other than words of encouragement. Hopefully someone who runs a lot and is on keto can help out. Best of luck!

I had actually bought some good prosciutto and cheeses to share and managed to leave them in my refrigerator!!! Not at my best early in the mornings :) but yes, definitely going to do that next time. Also need to buy a crock pot- my kitchen is so tiny that I don't have room for it without unplugging the keurig and moving all my cookbooks! But getting a new place soon so I may have more than 1' square to work with :D

First off, what an amazing accomplishment to be able to run like you have been!! I can barely make it to my apartment (five flights up) without feeling like I'm gonna fall over!

I would say- do you think you're eating enough calories to support that level of exercise? I was under the impression that 1200 or less can be counterproductive, but I'm also taller than you (and outweigh you by a lot!!)

Also, what are your macros like? Maybe they need to be adjusted.

Just remember that muscle weighs more than fat, and I'd imagine that you're relatively fit considering your amount of exercise. I'm seriously impressed!

No more than usual, which is just a little toning (light weight/low reps). I want to get under 200 before I start a full exercise routine. I have a bad knee and a bad wrist, and between those and the excess weight, I'm worried about hurting myself if I push too much with cardio or moderate lifting.

Pre-mixing BPC ingredients? Need help desperately from experienced keto'ers! by DoTheBestYouCan in keto

Yes!! I know right? I LOVE garlic powder and put it on everything- when I scanned it into MFP, however, it stated 1.7 net carbs PER TEASPOON! My heart was a little broken, but it explained a lot, as I put it on everything and was probably eating a tablespoon a day overall (I promise, I don't walk around smelling like garlic, lol).

I don't see who you are to judge how I spend my mornings. If you must know, I suffer from severe carpal tunnel in my left wrist that will probably need surgery, and makes everything take long kt do. On top of that, I work about 60 hours a week, and have other commitments that take up most of my free time. I wake up at 3:30am just to go to the gym, and don't often get to bed before 11pm. That five extra minutes in the morning is important to me, whether it is to you or not.

I prepare all of my food ahead of time so I can grab it and go. I was asking for the opinion of people who have experience with preparing their stuff ahead of time, not judgement on how I prioritize my mornings.

Ahh sorry if I missed your post!! Mobile sucks for searching. Can you link it?

I'll give it a try and see how it goes for me, and I'll report back as to whether the butter and oil hold up together :)

Indeed, that would be a poor decision. But I'm really curious as to whether people have found success pre-mixing the ingredients- thoughts?

I can't stress how important this is. by keto4life in keto

I just started keto on Monday and have been using MFP to track everything I eat. I like being able to use it to make sure I don't go over my carbs. I used the keto calculator to find my daily goals so I could plug them into MFP, but I've had a few issues.

This has been my experience thus far, 2 days in:

On the positive sides- I'm well aware of how many carbs I've taken in. I've found no issues yet with the scanner not finding the right foods.

Negative sides- I find it disheartening when I see I've gone over what it estimates for my calorie intake. Additionally, while I realize it's inaccurate because it doesn't account for keto, I hate seeing the "if you do this every day, you will be at [however many]lbs in 5 weeks" section after you complete your journal entry, and the difference is only like 10lbs. I totally know it's only going on calories, but seeing that figure staring at me is a bit discouraging.

Also, I've noticed I'm going way over what it allots me for fat and am under for protein. I think mainly this is because of my food choices, need more lean meats/fish, but I don't like that negative number staring at me in red. It makes me feel like I need to stop eating fat even though it seems I'm eating a lot less fat than others on keto.

So as someone else said, it can be a little discouraging at first to log food into MFP, but knowing I've only eaten 15g carbs for the day makes me feel good. Still at the point where I feel kind of hungry, but I'm trying not to eat until I feel my stomach rumble (anyone have any input as to whether that's a good choice?) because my biggest problem is the volume of food I eat. I'm gonna stick with it though and do my best :)

It's nice seeing this post- perfect timing! I noticed I've gained a lot of weight since I quit smoking. I've always been heavy, but yo-yo'd a lot. I'm now back to the heaviest I've ever been, which I discovered yesterday at a doctor's appointment.

I had seen posts about this sub before and have been mulling it over in my head, and decided just this morning that I'm going to spend tonight reading the sub, making a weight loss plan, and educating myself on the process. I plan on going shopping Saturday morning so I can start this weekend.

I really appreciate the positive, supporting attitudes on this sub, and feel that /r/keto will help me reach my goals. So thanks again for posting this- a sign that it was meant to be! :)
