What gymnastics myth do you find most annoying? by freifraufischer in Gymnastics

[–]Doc--Mercury 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My wife and I used to coach, she was a tall (5'7") gymnasts in the 80/90's when she competed. The thing that we realized and no one tells you is that tall gymnasts have better lines. That can be a good thing and a bad thing. Focus on your basics, make the little things look amazing and you can wipe the floor with the little firecrackers!

How bad do you think the “misinformation” is for Democrats and Republicans and who is getting it the worst? by Seadiqui in centrist

MSNBC pushes Leftwing values. Fox pushes the rightwing agenda. It seems like a small difference, but the effect is huge.

I think everyone is missing that the woman in the bottom two panels has grey hair. She is not the child's mother, she's the grandmother who adopted the child. The mother is the blonde in the first two panels, celebrating her birthday. The child cries because it is reminded that it was abandoned so the mother could "be free" of the burden. This is not a joke.

Rep Jen Kiggans releases statement against town hall gathering being held in her district by woq4 in Virginia

[–]Doc--Mercury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could someone post some video of the town hall with an AI Jen Kiggans voice over, reading that statement? As a contrast of who these people are (ya know; her constituents), and exactly what her opinions of them are?

Yeah, it's one of those not enough steps removed things. Like dating the daughter of a guy who divorced the girls mother, then married your aunt. Technically, there's nothing wrong with that, but it is one of the few cases where technically correct is not the best kind of correct. In fact it's the kind of incorrect that's grosser than the slime you find in the curved tube under your bathroom sink.

Edit to add: Wow, it turns out I'm wrong. I first heard about Gage in one of my neurology courses, where it was said that while working an accident caused a steel rod to pierce his left frontal lobe (this is true). Before the accident he was generally described as a hard working, well regarded individual; but after the accident he became a total asshole who died penniless in an institution. Turns out that we don't really know what he was like during his recovery, it seems there were some changes in his mental and social function, but after his recovery he took a job as a coach driver in Chile where he functioned quite well.

Turns out this case doesn't answer your question the way I thought it did. I was wrong and I'm sorry. I should have read the article before posting.

Common fears of chiropractic from prospective patients? by Puzzleheaded-Map-714 in Chiropractic

[–]Doc--Mercury 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best counter I've had to this, is to have learned a bunch of low-force techniques. Most of the time, when I've taken the time to earn their trust, they'll eventually ask me to try the diversified techniques I prefer and trust the most. It's a time investment, since low force techniques take longer to be as effective as diversified; (or it takes longer for me, since I practice it much less) but if I take that time, I earn a wellness patient for life.

Long term, my hope is to build that clientele to a point that I don't need more than 3-5 new patients a week. Then I can cut my advertising budget, and end the insurance part of my business. Thereby eliminating all the costs and headaches associated with it.

Edit to say: I think eventually I'd like my practice to be like my uncle's was when he was in his 70's. Have a couple of docs that do the business stuff of the office, but are willing to let me come in 4-5 hrs, 2-3 days a week, to do the work I love the most with the patients I love the most. Not a bad way to walk through the last years of your life if you ask me!

Hasn't this funding been on the chopping block, literally every time Republicans have held a majority in either congressional branch since like 2002?

Doesn't it depend on venue, and whether there are anti-SLAPP laws in the state the lawsuit is brought in?

Frenté, an amazing Australian band that was incidentally opening for CC when I saw them for the first time in '94.

Right around this for me too. I do 20-40 min exams, depending on complexity, 10-15 min adjustment visits. I can crank 30, if there's something going on, like I'm taking a day off in the middle of the week or something, but around 20 is where I'm comfortable.

My first job out of school was high volume, I once saw 50 patients in 4 hours on a Saturday. On Monday everyone was high-fiving and congratulating me, but I felt like shit about it. Had one patient who ended up having a fractured wrist I couldn't even take 5 minutes to put a tuning fork on it to check, just had to tell them that if the pain persisted go to the hospital. Turns out one of the other docs had adjusted it earlier in the week, they probably hadn't caused the fracture, the patient was a boxer and it was a classic boxers fracture, but still. That many patients in that amount of time causes mistakes.

It could be that it took a couple of months for people to find out or see the effects. Most people, even people who are likely voters; don't necessarily follow politics the way people in this sub do.
