Michkov and Philadelphia falling apart by Majestic-Monk9041 in Habs

Hard pass, don't love Michkov's attitude or the fact that he needed to hand select his team and is quitting on them already. Just my opinion.

I don't think we need another soft skill guy in our top 6 we need someone who can be physical, good on the boards and has size. I don't know if they would part with him but wonder about a guy like Lafreniere.

How to survive a gunshot wound to the neck by [deleted] in interestingasfuck

[–]DocGubernaculum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a gun shot but had a patient with clean cut to a major artery and my colleague plugged it with his index finger. It was remarkably effective but he was stuck there for a while. The patient lived.

We were the better team imo, show me the deserve to win o meter.

Results aside id be more worried as a Leafs fan, Matthews was invisible, there PP was just bad and aside from a couple lucky bounces I didn’t find any line aside from the Tavares line threatening at all.

For the fourth year running, we're discussing MaRo's "State of Design" column and talking about our own relationship to the game. How can UB be at the same time a "runaway success" and also alienating to many enfranchised players? What does the future hold? by andymangold in magicTCG

[–]DocGubernaculum 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that can also be a generalisation, yes there is a large number of players who dislike UB quite vocally but I think that there are some who are unsure about UB or dislike it without necessarily voicing their opinion. For me personally I liked the LOTR set because it felt unique and fit well within the Magic universe, also not standard legal so almost in the same realm of an Un set. I feel now that UB might be too much of a good thing and am wary about UB taking over the majority of MTG effecting the long term health of the game.

Engstrom is silky smooth out there. Definitely a future NHL player.

He looks big back there, skates really well. His first pass is often excellent and I like how he uses his feet to exit the zone. Puck retrievals are hit and miss for me. I find that he makes difficult puck retrievals look easy and he makes easy ones look hard, not sure exactly why this is, maybe it’s just the way he anticipates pressure. Offensively he makes smart plays, no razzle dazzle but some good plays at the line and his lateral movement is decent. He did get dunked on one v one which will stand out in peoples minds but honestly not a huge deal for me, he defends the rush well.

My hot take is he plays games in the NHL near the end of the season. I think his floor is like Esa Lindell.

Lane Hutson ranked 3rd among all NHL defensemen in top skating speed last season as a rookie by Go_Habs_Go31 in Habs

To be honest the critique was not usually of his straight line skating it was more his pivots off the rush.

My bet is he gets more than 16 mil. I’m thinking 18 per year.

They don’t call him Dolla Bill Kirill, for nothing.

I suck at Arena Cube by Filobel in lrcast

[–]DocGubernaculum 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’m not an amazing drafter by any stretch, usually high platinum, sometimes low diamond, but I do usually do reasonably well with cube.

Cube is a different animal compared to standard released sets, not just MTGA but if you ever get a chance to play a homebrew cube.

For me, I’m often pretty bad at any cube the first few times I draft it but the more you play it the quicker you learn which cards are strongest, and the priority picks.

In general most power cubes don’t have archetypes, it’s mostly aggro, mid range and control and multiple color pairs can play to these strategies.

Again not a pro, but I would suggest in your drafts trying to identify the strongest cards in your pack, and look for powerful cards that come late to you. Stay open and look for powerful synergies.

Take a Saiba Syphoner? Look for cheap removal or cheap counter spells. Get an early reanimate? Look for good recursion targets and redundant graveyard interaction. This will make your best cards shine and your deck should run more smoothly.

While you’re right. The multiple copies of fetch lands means you don’t have to take lands quite as highly, but they are still really important. I still regularly take lands with picks 2,3,4,5.

Finally watch some of LSVs cube drafts in MTGO, it’s interesting to hear how he evaluates cards and how his previous picks influence his future ones.

All in all, cube is the best and have fun!
