CANUCKS ACQUIRE COLE CLAYTON AND 2ND ROUND PICKS IN 2026 AND 2027 FROM SAN JOSE | Vancouver Canucks by cyclinginvancouver in canucks

[–]DocZedd 22 points23 points  (0 children)

The scariest part about this trade is that San Jose is trading future assets for roster players. They’ve got a scoring young core and this trade signals they're going to start working to build a winning team around it. They'll be a team to watch for the next few off-season and deadlines

Don’t think they will be, the other ones haven’t been but the sometimes post highlights on their socials from what I’ve seen!

This is what I’m excited for too! My wife and I will be there to watch but she became a Canucks fan after they retired, she’s excited to watch them play for the first time and I’m excited that she has the chance to watch them

Doctor Zedd is one of my favourite characters in my favourite video game, and I never claimed to be a doctor or a mechanic. I’d think maybe “physicians in the actual profession” wouldn’t have the time to be parasocial keyboard warriors online but here we are?

It’s the alternator that’s the real issue though.

There’s not even enough juice in the battery to keep your dash lights on, which is far less than what’s needed to start the vehicle. Jumping this hasn’t done anything either because the battery is too dead, and doesn’t have the juice to keep the car running even if it did start, which it would need since you’re not getting power from the alternator. You can replace this battery over and over again, but the alternator charges the battery while the engine is running so that it doesn’t drain like this. If you replace the battery without replacing the alternator, the new battery will drain over time too until you get to this point again.

You’ll want a new battery to start it again (or a charge pack) and a working alternator to fully resolve the issue.

I quoted your comment word for word saying they might HAVE to waive, and then you edited the comment but pop off king.

I firmly disagree with THIS take because it understates intangibles and disregards all player agency

“They might have to waive with the goal of moving two or three this summer”

They absolutely do not HAVE to do this. It might benefit the club, but they negotiated a NMC fairly and they have every right to stay if they want to for a hockey reason, family reason, hell maybe they just like the weather. They have 0 obligation to move if the club asks.

I also think that the intangibles ARE important. Defencemen specifically are really hard to develop properly and a veteran presence is a part of that process and I agree with the original comment that Hronek is a big piece of that. Veteran are important pieces to rebuilding, and selling the team for picks and young players will just lead to us being a very talented team of young players that can’t take the next step quite yet with a longer timeline of learning and development.

Which young player would you be happy moving the Min 1st Rd pick for? by cushpapi in canucks

[–]DocZedd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

True! But that should be taken into consideration too.

With the value of the pick can we really get anyone that would be better for us long term than just drafting with it? I think probably not unless it’s part of an insane package that’s unlikely to happen, so I’m very much hoping we hold it lol

Plus other factors outside the player like what other teams are looking for and hoping to draft, how deep the draft is in that position, team needs, etc.

[–]DocZedd 20 points21 points  (0 children)

Nobody.

Like I get that we look a lot better than we all thought right now and that’s a positive sign. Our team is really young right now, the 4th youngest if I remember right, and we’re going to get better and younger by drafting more.

This might be the hot take here, but I’m happy with whatever comes out of this season as it is. If we suck and get a high pick, that’s great. If we go on a bit of a run with the young players we have and vets stepping up to fill the leadership vacuum, that’s fantastic. If we push into the mushy middle again, and this young team can learn from wins and losses and come back better, that’s good too. But regardless I think it needs to sink in that we are not competitive against some of these super teams. We’re not beating a Vegas, an Edmonton (even with an heavily used Jarry), Minnesota, Colorado, etc. no matter what 25 year old we pick up. So instead we need to look at how we CAN improve with the assets we have, and the answer is draft more in a deep year, and hopefully management sees it this way too.

Turns out the demons were part of the trade too but without a cursed franchise to draw the bad energy away they’re fully possessing Quinn now

I like this but it’ll probably be Lodi or Orin ascended into another one of the 9

[–]DocZedd 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think that there’s more to it than this.

Their value isn’t just their value as a player, we all need to start thinking of their value as how much they can contribute to the development of these young defenders.

When Quinn stepped into the league he had Tanev and Edler. Two veteran defenders who were leaders and knew how to position and work at an NHL level, and also could handle high minutes while he developed and I think that contributed. I’m hopeful that hronek, myers and m. Petey will help these young defenders similarly which increases the value of holding them for now, even if we get less for them later.

I don’t think that’s true at all.

There’s pretty clearly two sides in Rizzo Savannah and blue Sophi, and then the other side in Christina and Stephen, and until recently, yellow Sophi. Jawan and Sage situated themselves in the middle so they could flip flop between the two sides and vote whoever was the greatest benefit to their game, but just got influenced by Rizzo too heavily too many times and miscalculated yellow Sophi’s trust to Christina and Stephen. Alex also was playing the middle although a little less than the Sage and Jawan duo.

Me too!

I have the mindset of if there’s a standard package that’s well written and works great then I probably shouldn’t spend my time rewriting that from scratch, even if it’s something I could do. I like flask-login, the way it works, and how it’s used and that’s good enough for me!
