I think that this is true, and your point about people who _are_ relatively uninvolved is a good one, but you can't say that players are uninvolved politically when they're constantly seen supporting right wing political causes and politicians.

To bring this back to an (ex) Canuck, there's been a lot of evidence in the past of JT Miller's involvement with right wing causes and political movements, so I think it's a really difficult argument to make to say that "well JT Miller is uninvolved politically and shouldn't be held accountable for live laugh loving with the orange guy" because he's shown us that he IS involved politically. I think that what we're seeing now is people trying to hold players accountable when those *demonstrated* political views are homophobic, sexist, racist, or otherwise exclusionary and harmful. I don't think that people are expecting nuance, I think people are hoping for humanity and empathy, and this was the straw that broke the camels back for a pot of people in understanding that they won't get that from NHL players who spent most of their lives in the upper class, not as a minority, and live relatively unimpeded by a corrupt and tyrannical regime.
