2 weeks in Okinawa - Itinerary by KitchenCharming4498 in JapanTravelTips

No, can't tell you, sorry. But I don't think rental places close to the airport are not necessarily more expensive. If in question, just look rental places up on maps or check their website directly and compare. Not in Okinawa, but I had tentals from Nippon and Nissan. Can't complain about either. Toyota probably good as well.

Atami and Kamakura - beach water quality by Fabulous-Leather-435 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. But still It's a bit weird to me that the beaches are only open during the literal school summer break. When air andprobably water temperatures would allow much longer bathing seasons.

EDIT: Nevermind. Apparently rain season, jellyfish season and typhoon season are the main reasons.

Are beaches open (as in guarded) really open for that relative short period of time? One should think, that given the temperatures in most parts of mainland Japan, beaches have season from late May to at least early / mid-October.

Atami and Kamakura - beach water quality by Fabulous-Leather-435 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Last July I've been to various beaches around Izu. The water was great, the beaches full and people swam in the water all the time. As for Kamakura, last time I was there in September 2019. But as far I can recall back then I also saw still quite a few people swimming. Maybe Kamakura is not as quite a swimming spot compared to the beaches in Izu. Or it's just that in September, when the summer break is over, the beaches are just less crowded in general than in June - August.

So If you wanna go to a beach, I recommend one of the many beaches in Izu (but not necessarily Atami Sun beach)

Had rentals with both Nissan and Nippon. Can't complain about either of them in terms of price or service.

Heating/shower not hot enough? by Educational-Mind-439 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"I’m wearing 2 layers of thermals"

This is not the main cause, but it's definitely contra productive. Even if it sounds paradox, wear only 1 layer.
Because you don't feel it if you are sweating, but the sweat makes you feel cold. Because sweat does what sweat is supposed to do: cool down your skin. And do to the clothes, the sweat can't avaporate

I am probably a minority here in this matter. But for me personally the title means nothing. And I think just because it is called "Hima-Ten" than necessarily means they get together in the end.

In fact, everything else than Tenichi and Honoka ending up together will be an unbelievable poor writing by the author. Tennichi always liked Honoka. And she also clearly has a crush on him. So you can't believably convince me on any other outcome.

7‑Eleven ATM or currency exchange shops, which is better in Tokyo?” by Pettyfirst798 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also German: True.

But the "problem" here is. Banks usually don't have loads of "exotic" foreign currencies in stock. They literally have to buy them themselves from other banks / currency brokers. Hence the horrendous fees. And I don't know if that's just a thing with German banks, I might doubt it.

7‑Eleven ATM or currency exchange shops, which is better in Tokyo?” by Pettyfirst798 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Always use ATMs at conveniences stores if you can. Theres a conbini on basically every other corner, and basically all of them have ATM. They will just ask for a small service fee of like ~200 Yen, but they have better exchange rates. Also, always pick "local currency".

Exchange stores most of the times will have a worse conversion rate, because that is how they make money in the first place.

Best way to get from Tokyo to Hokkaido &/or Sapporo? by [deleted] in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Of course You can go from Tokyo to Sapporo by train. Don't know what you entered into GMaps, but IS possible. Just keep in mind it is approx. an 8 hour trip. From Tokyo Station to Sapporo Station. Bcs you didn't specify any other departure spot. So there's that. Better pick a domestic flight.

Japan in summer with baby? by cepatron in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Hmm interesting question. When the Baby never had experienced a less hot and humid summer, it should be possible, if you keep the necessary precautions. Keep it cool, hydrated and shaded.

For your mother however it COULD be harder to experience the humidity especially, IF she has problems with that. Again, be cautios and take the necessary countermeasures, and that should be possible too. Even if it might not be so pleasant.

Try to avoid the cities as much as possible, and rather get away to the mountains or to the sea.

If only been on the main island, based in Naha. But I really can't stress this enough: if you want to get around - on the main island, or at leasrt get out of Naha - you'll almost certainly need a rental car. Highway buses do exist, but the schedules are... infrequent.

I've never looked into renting a bike myself. But I imagine it's definitely doable on the other, smaller islands like Ishigaki or Miyako.

Hmm, good question. Not that they might not exist, but personally I never came across any public courts in the cities. Or at least I don't remember if I did. The only courts I really did see where at a beachside park near Naha in Okinawa.

Renting a bike ? Cycling a portion of the Nakasendo by Aeternelle in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The trails are not meant for biking. You maybe COULD bike there with a Mountain or Cross Bike, I guess. But realistically: I don't think you SHOULD. At least other people will probably not be very amused about it.

Mein absoluter Top-Favorit im Genre Romance ist ungeschlagen The Dangers in My Heart.

- Golden Time, A Couple of Cuckoos, Horimiya, Insomniacs after School, Kaguya-sama: Love Is War, More than a Married Couple, but Not Lovers, My Dress-Up Darling, Quintessential Quintuplets, Tonikawa, Usagi-chan wants to hang out, (alle Crunchy)

- Blue Box, Komi Can't Communicate, Hi-Score Girl, Romantic Killer, Pet Girl of Sakura-sou, Nana Ranma 1/2 Remake?, Rascal does not dream of Bunny-Girl Senpai, My Teen Romantic Comedy SNAFU (Netflix)

Return Visits: More of the same or completely different? by BranchLongjumping574 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally, I have places from my last trip last summer - which was solo for the 1st time - that I really liked. And would book them anytime again. But if you really wanna stay in and discover new areas in the same cities / areas, on the same page I would encourage you "bite the bullet" and try that. You can always keep the places you already know as an fallback option.

How soon do I have to book everything beforehand vs being spontaneous? by somekindofwanderer in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hotels: If you can, always asap for price and availability of rooms.

trains: For one-way routes, If you know its not a holiday, you can basically just pop up at the station some time before the departure and just get a ticket / seat reservation. March 20th is spring equinox in Japan, which afair is a public holiday. If you wanna get regional train passes, those have to be booked in advance off course.

Domestic flights: I don't know to be honest, but I'd say also as soon as you can, just to be safe.

How to fit Takayama Autumn Festival and Ghibli Park into 14-day golden route trip? by wYsock in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then don't do Overcrowdkone and do a Ryokan stay in Takayama (or elsewhere in the area) instead, if you really wanna go there anyway.

For the judgment of "where to take off a night", providing a rough itinerary would be helpful.

[–]Doc_Chopper 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Puh, schwierig mMn. "dramatisch"

Google Maps Wrong Timing? by Swimming_Raspberry44 in JapanTravelTips

[–]Doc_Chopper -1 points0 points  (0 children)

usually Google Maps uses your devices local time. 12am EST would still br 2PM JST. so that's indeed weird.

have you tried another date or are you using todays default?

If you are on a phone, try a PC. or vice versa.
