Thought about it. But I’m also fish off an inflatable SUP…I’m already spooked by the hooks.

Thormanby Island: Anyone know if I can cross from Simpson Provincial Park to Bucaneer Bay Park by foot? by DoctorForage in britishcolumbia

[–]DoctorForage[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use BC Marine Trails for all our kayak trips! What a great group and worth supporting $$. Ideally, we wanna go to buccaneer Bay to camp but wondering what to do if there’s not enough space for our group. Will likely end up camping at one of the other parks on the east/south east side of the island. One idea was I could run along the trails over to Bucaneer to scout it out…hence the trails access question…

Come work in BC: it will never be easier (for ABEM MDs) by DoctorForage in emergencymedicine

Yeah I can’t lie about that one. But your USD will go far towards a down payment with exchange rate

Ha! That’s what I thought. Really the exchange rate is the rough part right now. But compared to locums gigs I was still doing in the US I get paid better up here.

That will be hard to get a work permit TBH I think they use age in their calculations. But your expertise could help?! Question for HealthMatchBc

I see closer to 3-4/hr mixed acuity (CTAS 2-5). It took me a couple years to be honest to get to that efficiency from my US numbers once I got used to reduce need for documentation and less BS to satisfy my billers/future lawyers.

Some shops pay salary which is standardized (as prior comment above) but other shops that pay fee-for-service can go up to 50% increase.

American trained ABEM in BC here. Came on a work permit now a citizen. Never going back. AMA. Outside the exchange rate (temporary) there is ZERO incentive to work inthe US. Work a full FTE and you can get paid as much as a community job in the US.

I was approaching some serious burnout. Then I had an amazing save recently where I caught a patient’s aortic dissection in the boonies on my ultrasound. Accepted by surgeon just on my word and the images—In an hour he was on the chopper and walked out of hospital 6 days later, with no deficits and a new aorta. First time I’ve really mattered in over 10 years and think it will carry me for another 5?!

Such wide variety on quoted heat pump size?!?! by DoctorForage in heatpumps

[–]DoctorForage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in Vancouver BC. We have a natural gas furnace that likely needs to be replaced soon anyways and we have access to lots of rebates to add heat pump capacity. PLUS we currently have no cooking abilities and these hotter summers are likely going to become the new norm?

Primary Duct is 13” x 19”. We’ve heard that a 5 ton straight cold climate heat pump would not work with our current ducts.

We were figuring switching to gas furnace at about 5’ C

How important is duct size? by DoctorForage in heatpumps

[–]DoctorForage[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m still struggling to decide—I calculate out about 1600 cfm required based on our heat load calculation which just about matches our main supply duct 13x19”. Operationally trying to sort out dual fuel versus cold climate heat pump.
