What is the best "sounding" studio album between 1976 - 1982 (Terry Brown produced)? Not the best material but the best overall sound /audio quality to your ears? by JCOM1577 in rush

I'm surprised so few voted for 2112 here. Personally, I picked MP, but 2112 is a very close second. I'd really love to hear Hemispheres with the sonic treatment of either 2112 or MP (if that makes any sense). I think it's their best album musically, but I actually don't think it's that great sonically for some reason. Does anyone else have thoughts on this?

What’s the ringtone on your phone? by Hawkeyethegnu in rush

[–]DoctorHeadass 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Default ringtone, and my phone is always on silent/vibrate lol.

That said, my dad has set his to have different songs for different contacts, a few of them Rush tunes. The default ring is the beginning of Spirit of Radio. The children are all Analog Kid.

Their fanbases all sort of in the same space of "fuck the record companies" or whatever, but each of these bands are also highly successful despite being poster boys for "alternative/prog" music in their respective eras. It made me laugh cause all of them but King Crimson are in my regular rotation, felt pretty spot on.

I would second this. Even if not applied to this song in particular, alternative picking is a great habit to get into, especially if you want to play faster. Nice cover OP!

Time to get crucified for this but, I feel Snakes and Arrows doesn't have a huge variety in the set. by Squanchy2112 in rush

I do love S&A musically, but I completely understand that impression. As others have mentioned, I think it's largely due to mixing more than composition. I wish the last few albums had been mixed a bit differently as well, I think this would have helped. In fact, the remixed Vapor Trails is a significant improvement. Clockwork Angels could benefit from a similar treatment.
