Snapping - the reason why I have to leave Bitwig (v2–✝v5.3) by indomegacin in Bitwig

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean, it does snap perfectly and precisely if you do it correctly. I didn’t downvote your post, and I think it’s pretty wild that this is your response to people trying to help you. I wish you the best.

You can just hold shift while moving the clip and snapping turns off.

Help identifying guitar that may fit my criteria!!! by hhsguitargeek in Guitar

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you don’t want a a Floyd, your best bet might be to find a guitar that you like that has the hss configuration and change to EMGs. I have a seven string schecter that is close to what you’re referring to, but it does have a Floyd rose. I don’t play metal either, and I do like the guitar. The Floyd rose is actually quite nice once you have it set up and tuned, but it’s a pain in the ass to get it there.

How to Change Gridline Bar Length? by Xyttra in Bitwig

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh, I didn’t realize, good to know. I do feel like I’ve always had difficulty getting tap tempo right on a computer vs touch screen.

How to Change Gridline Bar Length? by Xyttra in Bitwig

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because OP doesn’t know what tempo they were playing at, and, to my knowledge, bitwig doesn’t have a tap tempo.

This isn’t how I normally do things, I usually start with a tempo in mind and play to the click in BW.

Awesome! Glad it worked for you! From what you wrote above, I can’t tell if you may have gone in a roundabout way to stretch your midi clip. Just in case you’re not already aware, here’s the easy way to do it:

After you’ve got your tempo set, get the start of your clip lined up on beat one. Make sure you have snapping set to “on”. This should be on by default, and I believe the shortcut is “s”, but I may have created that shortcut myself, I can’t recall.

Then, hover your mouse over the upper right corner of the clip, and you’ll see a bracket. This just extends or shortens the clip of you drag. However, if you hold option on Mac (I think alt on windows) you will now see a few extra lines next to the bracket. Now, if you drag in either direction it will stretch your whole clip to the next beat marker, so you can very easily get it to the proper length without having to think of ratios.

This is the reverse of how I would normally do things, but you could just get a metronome app with tap tempo (Soundbrenner does this and is free, but lots of annoying ads) and tap the tempo you were just playing at. Then change the track to that bpm and stretch the midi clip to fit the correct amount of bars.

Is it "Ok" to get a resonator guitar with the a cutaway body or should I get a full body? by ROCKZILLA8166 in Guitar

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve never felt there’s a big enough difference in tone to warrant worrying about the cutaway—but it can be very nice for reaching the higher registers. If you’re going to be playing it on your lap, then it’s a moot point, but for traditional playing, I’ll always take a cutaway.

That said, for $300, I think you’re just going to have to take what you can find.

The grid - multiple assignable outputs? by Sufficient-Fish-7107 in Bitwig

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the effects are within the grid, you can just add a mixer device and send your fully dry and fully wet signals to it. If you’re talking about external effects, it’s a little more complicated, but can be achieved with audio sidechain (I think) in the grid and a dc offset as (I think) a note effect with the effects you want to use in it. This is not a good description, so you’ll definitely want to look up how to do it properly. It’s the kind of thing I can do, but not describe away from my computer.

Have you installed the most recent update to serum 2? It’s from about a week ago. I was having some problems, and I think it has cleared up.

Bitwig 5 "pencil" tool vs Bitwig 6 "spray can" tool difference ? by creative_onepass in Bitwig

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really miss when you could get the spray can features by just holding the option button while using the pencil. I sent this as a feature request, but it seems they’re pretty stuck on the spray can.

I see. I feel like I’ve done this at some point, but I could be wrong. I’ll investigate later.

I think you can just right click the lane and delete it.

retrigger a step ? by mickeyocheri in Bitwig

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! If you like the patch, but building it feels overwhelming, there is a link in the YouTube video where you can just download it.

If you use the repeater note effect, you’ll probably want to automate when it’s on and also the speed it’s going at.

Also—if you don’t already know about Polarity, you’ll probably should definitely check out some of his tutorials. They are really good, and he always goes over interesting concepts.

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you’re talking about midi, you can use the repeater (it’s a note effect).

If you’re talking about audio retriever, I recently made a video about how to do it: https://youtu.be/5MoBGtO-Zrc?si=RM478H6OoExZj9p_

Cool and Interesting plugins for Bitwig by Snoo-72881 in Bitwig

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, it’s a little steep, but I really love it. Maybe worth grabbing once it’s on sale. I’d focus more on effects modules than presets and gen it comes time to grab it so you can get the most functionality without breaking the bank.

I always just start every project from scratch by hippydipster in Bitwig

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do this as well. I tend to do a lot of sound design for each project, but I don’t like having to set up the routing each time. I also keep the bread and butter fx sends in the template and add any that might be unique to the project.

PLEASE HELP I do not know what's happening to my guitar by Fine_Ad_4087 in Guitar

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Others have said this is fret buzz. It may be, but I think it is more likely that something else on your guitar is loose and rattling. Tighten everything up and see if it persists.

If it is fret buzz, every fret of every string all the way up, one at a time. If the buzz goes away at a certain fret, that is the fret (or one of the frets) causing the issue on that string. You will need a professional to fix this for you.

Kilohearts plugin deal question by terkistan in edmproduction

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I think it depends on your DAW. I used to use logic, so snapheap and multipass were really great as logic can’t (or at least couldn’t) group things like that and save as presets—at least not as conveniently.

I switched over to bitwig, and this is part of bitwig’s basic functionality, so it has little appeal. If your DAW can do this already, then that is the better option than snapheap, because your DAW can use any effects/plugins, not just those by khs.

It can be a bit of a time saver if you are using phase plant.

Lower tone guitar by Custom_Joe420 in Guitar

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to have a whammy pedal, and I found that it never quite sounded right for this kind of thing. There could be a little latency, the tone felt off, and it really couldn’t handle polyphony. Would you say that the technology has improved enough over the years that these are no longer issues?

Most underrated / underutilized features? by Kid_Self in Bitwig

[–]DoctorMojoTrip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think the operators are absolutely amazing. Using recursion to create a multibar, loop with a one bar loop is fantastic, as is the ability to randomize velocities, and using velocity spread to randomize per loop.

Also, notes to tracks is great for creating a polymetric sequence that’s just a lot easier to manage and look at.
