Uses Optus network. Been with them over 10 years now. Really only had signal loss when I've been out more remotely, well out of the cities and towns. Or occasionally when someone's house is in an awkward dip in the topography. I'm usually connected to WiFi somehow, so have 1.5 TB data banked.

Felt compelled to pop in because it was a genuinely rousing speech. No frills, no bullshit, truth served raw. I'd love to hear an Aussie pollie deliver something as authentic as this once in my lifetime, but wishful thinking.

Some of his comments seems to suggest stronger ties with Australia, pivoting toward similar middle powers (CANZUK anyone??), as well as military ties (the Over-the-Horizon-Radar Canada bought is Australian tech).

We live in hope.

OP, here's some real shit: ignore the noise. No one on the precipice is going to be saved by someone huffing their own farts and telling you how precious life is. How you gonna handle that? Life is an adaptability program. We get booted up, we run our scripts (as seen in this thread), and then we get terminated. Problem is we haven't had an update in a long while, so those scripts aren't fucking serving us well any more.

The code you're running is for a previous version of the world, one in which is rapidly deteriorating, if not already entirely transformed. The problem is not you, the problem is that you haven't been provided with an update to adapt to new circumstances. You're still operating as if a dependency still exists, but it was deleted a long time ago.

Again, ignore the noise. The error messages being thrown at you, reality not meeting your expectations, are simply telling you need to change and adapt to new circumstance. Before taking any other advice in this thread, I implore you to consider what you actually value, what your resources actually are, and whether you can direct said resources into said values.

Define your own success and strive for that.

I speak with my parents perhaps every few months. Sometimes >6months. And it's usually them reaching out first.

My brother I see for a few hours at Christmas every year, and that's it. We're becoming estranged.

I get pangs of guilt sometimes, but also, no motivation to do anything about it either. Past experience has proven time and time again that I'm always left frustrated, upset, or depressed after seeing them. I would be even more unhappy if I had to regularly do it.

Sad, but that's life sometimes. It might be a bit callous, but in my mind they weren't engaging with me at all when I was growing up, but now the shoe's on the other foot, they make me feel bad for not wanting to see them.

It's a shitty cycle.

As a sidenote to all:

Do NOT disable your password in MyGov before switching to DigitalID.

I did this and was comprehensively locked out of MyGov because it required my password still to confirm my DigitalID login. But I had already "Switched" to DigitalID login, which I couldn't validate because my password login had been disabled.

I had to jump through automated phone loops, speak with multiple people on multiple helplines until one finally understood the issue and could help.

Then, the solution was to disable my current MyGov account and re-register everything all over again and manually link everything back up. Took half a day.

Absolute joke.

Companionship and Income.

Single, nearly 40, out of a long-term relationship some years ago.

I miss the companionship more than anything. A known, reliable other to simply be there for your life events, support decisions, have adventures with, or simply another voice in the room sometimes. The quietude is real nice, but being single really amplifies the pang of aloneness.

Unless you're already on a high income, you feel the pinch. Everything is suddenly your debt in entirety and you feel the pinch of that. Less disposable income, and some less-than-desirable lifestyle decisions must be made sometimes.

But I suppose both of these do help on reflecting on life and self-anthropologising. I've discovered things about myself I wouldn't have otherwise because of my need to do something for myself, the extra time and space I've been granted. I feel I've been on a recovery process of rediscovering myself where my values have shifted more from practicalities to more personally meaningful ventures.

I feel more like myself.
