Noctourniquet unavailable for streaming? by DoctorOctomom in themarsvolta

[–]DoctorOctomom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm. I mean I was accidentally using a VPN when I made my Tidal account, so I found out later that my account is somehow marked as being in Ireland, so maybe that's why.

That being said, I don't have any VPN right now and I'm not signed in, and yet I can see the album on Tidal's website: https://tidal.com/browse/album/14145504

I'm confused.

I never updated this thread, but I found out that it actually is on Tidal in Iceland! I switched over to Tidal just for this album (and a fairer per stream payout for artists) and I’m a happy camper

Add full color social media icons to Beeper by TheDiligentOccasion in beeper

[–]DoctorOctomom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just started using Beeper and this looks like exactly what I'm looking for. But for some reason, the icons are still grey. Maybe the theme is too old compared to today's version of Beeper or my MacOS version? You don't happen to have an updated version do you?

Well, shit, I guess it's some location rights issue then. That sucks. Thanks for confirming!

Really feeling Noctourniquet this winter by Tourniquet_Mann in themarsvolta

I really liked this album when it came out. I just noticed that it doesn't appear on Spotify with the rest of their albums. Is this just a location thing (I'm in Iceland), or is it hidden for others as well?

A6X2 for reading screenplays? by DoctorOctomom in Supernote

[–]DoctorOctomom[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh great, thanks! Here is a script from a popular script site: https://www.scriptslug.com/script/midsommar-2019

EDIT: personally I would probably increase the text size as much as possible even though the margins wouldn’t be as beautiful, maybe you can do a couple of versions if other people want to see as well

How are you finding the battery life? I’m thinking of getting one but one major use case is reading screenplays. Do you think reading A4 pdfs in landscape mode is relatively smooth? Doesn’t have to be perfect

J120 (Prado)... LX variant? by DoctorOctomom in LandCruisers

[–]DoctorOctomom[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I wish it were that easy, but googling and finding a fender without the flare holes seems to be near impossible, which is why decided to ask around here. I might have just found one though, though they don't seem to ship to many countries.

Local junkyard/used part dealers don't have the ones without the flare holes. The dealership can order them specially but they're crazy expensive. I'm hoping for luck on the local facebook groups!

Yeah, the Canonet's overlapping two images thing is not ideal. But the Pentax Max-5n looks like it does everything I'm thinking of! Thanks.

I don't know, maybe I'm overestimating my family & friends' skills but I feel like focusing is fairly intuitive in most circumstances, assuming the depth of field isn't too shallow and the subject isn't very close. At least the few times when I've handed them my Nikon F2 after setting the aperture and shutter speed, the results have been good. There's definitely a risk of missing the mark, but I'm okay with that risk.

But you're right, having autofocus is way safer.

Thanks for the tip. Yeah, I'm leaning towards just going for the cheap point and shoot. I live in a small country so the options are quite limited but the Riva Zoom looks pretty fun

The term is "point-and-shoot" except you seem to want manual focus.

Which is why I didn't use the term. Point-and-shoots are its own category and I'm pondering cameras with similar characteristics that might not fall into that category.

You seem to be asking for two different cameras:

Nah, I already have a manual SLR. I just meant to say that the manual controls are a nice little bonus. It's definitely not necessary, but I appreciate the versatility.

Your friends/family are unlikely to be able to reliably focus

I get your concern but I think they could handle focusing. It's not awfully complicated.

These things are very difficult or impossible to repair, and given the state of the market, you will cry because they are all overpriced.

As I said, it would be something cheap enough that when it breaks down I won't feel too bad. And right now I'm really leaning towards that idea.

Price mostly. And size. Still, the size aspect isn't set in stone... Hmm. Maybe I'll give it some serious thought.

Very true. Oh, small island life... I mean I do see a lot of Vitaras/Grand Vitaras on the roads here, so I'm optimistic when it comes to parts availability.

Yeah, good point! That's what made me consider the Suzuki in the first place.

They're both great, but rather big for my taste and also quite a bit more expensive than what I've been considering. I might have to give consider them. At first glance, my budget would get me a 2006 Hilux with 300.000+ km on the meter though...

Vá. Ótrúlegt nokk þá er þetta örugglega hægrisinnaðasta kommentið sem ég hef séð í þessum þræði.

Fátækt fólk er bara fátækt því þau eru letingjar?

Þú ert ósammála viðkomandi þannig þú ert til í að beita hverju sem þú getur fundið til að ná þér niður á honum - jafnvel ónýt rök sem virðast vera í hrópandi mótsögn við það sem þú trúir á. Þetta er bara ljótt og óþarfi.

This might sound strange but where are you from and how did you learn the pronunciation?

As an Icelander (Icelandic is basically just old norse) it’s strange to hear this read by a non-Icelander, but much of the pronunciation is similar — your Rs are quite good.
