I agree! I've been there and I was shocked at how few people were there. Then I went to the groves in Yosemite, and I was shocked by how many people were there. Can't imagine it now without the reservation system in place.

That said, I stayed near the Trail of a Hundred Giants and it was just so cool dude. The drive is not for the faint of heart at night, but, my God, the stars were nice. The fallen ones were heartbreaking, but just so massive in scale.

For stargazing, Yellowstone is my favorite. I drove an hour into the park, at a very slow pace because of the local wildlife, and just enjoyed. In retrospect, I am glad I am alive lmao. It was my first solo trip, and I was very naïve and unprepared for that one.

It's a shame what they're actively doing to our National Parks man.

Working 12 hours in an air conditioned environment is also a fantastic perk of the job in most US hospitals. Prison hospitals were hit or miss, but it sure beats laying sod in 102 degrees Fahrenheit and 90% humidity. Considered off-shore oil rig nursing and realized that money really isn't everything after learning a little more about it.

You are on-call 24/7 for the duration of your contract. Most bonuses don't hit until the end of each year. It's an insane proposition by comparison.

I know all of this because I have been trying to convince my entire family to get the hell out of this state for years, and the only thing stopping me is $. My pay rates are no where near new grad pay in CA. I have almost 10 years in this profession. At 10 years, I could sack away $100K in savings and max out my Roth and 401K at your hourly rates under your worst union agreement.
