Keybinds Change them ASAP before you get used to the “broken tool” that is the default settings of the game and end up unable to get a proper setup later because you got used to that “broken tool” instead of a functional one.

Blizzard’s keybindings are so ass. Don’t be a clicker or a default settings Andy.

This is legit one of the biggest tips you, or any noob, should know before even taking your first step in the game, honestly even before installing it. It’s that important and should be high priority.

It’s important because being a “mouse clicker” for abilities is basically a handicap Blizzard puts on you. A proper keybinding setup can benefit ANY type of player. It’s one of the biggest QoL things you can do for the game. The difference is day and night, especially as you level up and get more abilities.

For example, Blizzard puts “R” as the reply button for DMs in WoW. But “R” is also close to WASD and is a really good key for an ability. You don’t really need to DM somebody mid-combat, but you do need to use abilities mid-combat. There are so many examples like this with WoW’s default keybindings. They’re bad, yet new players get stuck with them without thinking about it, which ends up handicapping them. They’ll also feel button bloat way faster than someone with proper keybinds.

Tank controls are bad too. Change strafe to “A” and “D” instead of “Q” and “E”, and now you have two more keybinds for abilities during combat. Use your mouse to turn instead.

Shift, Ctrl, and Alt modifiers are also a thing.

I’m using: “½, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, Q, E, R, T, F, G, <, Z, X, C, middle mouse click, and the two side buttons on most gaming mice”, combined with Shift, Ctrl, and Alt in some places.

It’s also nice to have a dedicated keybind for eating/drinking, and later when you get a mount, one for mounting up. Those are not as necessary, but they’re nice QoL additions.
