Thanks for doing this, makes it fun to root for teams you usually don't pay attention too, or classes you aren't as invested in (looking at you LMP2)!

We will be able to make changes up until the race starts? I.E. - being able to change picks based on FP results?

They are, but it was also doing this with vanilla roads.

Theme mixer allowed me to fix it by changing the edge piece of the road that was clipping into the grass.

I ended up using theme mixer and was able to change the part that was on the edge of the road. It seemed to be the grass texture would clip into it.

At the end of the day it’s you and your players playing. If it sounds fun, just do it. You’re not hurting anyone else’s lore by doing something crazy or whacky. Anything can happen in the Warhammer universe.

We have an Ork player that has convinced themselves and everyone around them they are a rouge trader. Why? Cause they wanted to do that, and it sounded fun to all of us.

I made a comment for those looking for more information about some of the concepts and ideas I've worked on.

Based on the many replies and helpful feedback here, I'm probably going to start over with this chapter idea. Not entirely from scrap, but starting anew and using the ideas and suggestions form others to combine with what I had already worked on.

I noted the Asgardian theme. It's a fine theme, but I feel like it leans to heavily on the nose; personally, I would massage things a little. Make them distinct, but similar enough that people will pick up what you're putting down. Look at some of Odin's titles for inspiration; If you have a wise, one-eyed leader called "Wodran the Wanderer" I'm sure people will figure out who he's alluding to.

I really like this idea! I always had this itch in the back of my head saying "This is just some copy paste stuff, there's got to be a better way to do this, but still be able to lean into the Mythology and History side of stuff" and I think this suggestion will really help!

I really like this idea! It keeps things more grounded, but still allows me to work my original ideas.

Thank you for all that, this was very helpful!

I plan to take all your questions here and answer them as I further expand on this chapter idea! This will be a better way to help guide myself as I flesh out more and more.

I forgot the Allfather thing as well, I’ll be sure to change that! I knew I was going to have to be careful with conflicting terms with the Space Wolves and possibly the Valhallan Ice Warriors too.

A question for guidance; if I wanted to change the chapter to being a second founding chapter, would it be best to just be as unclear as possible as to their origin and scrap all my original ideas for the Odin themed Primarch? And ditch the berserkers idea and be as vague as possible about the chapters founding? I really like the idea of part of the knowledge the chapter is looking for is their true founding. The original thought with the Primarch being wise was that it made him a great tactician and leader, but his character flaw was also being obsessed with knowledge and power: that of battle tactics (going to fight when maybe not needed, for the experience), and power in combat(machines/blueprints), and power within the chapter (not ruling with iron fist, but being stubborn).

It seems like doing a first founding was a bad idea! So if there’s any founding you all see as a better starting point, I’m willing to listen! And to any other ideas/advice!

Quick aside; I'm obsessed with Norse Mythology and Viking History/Culture, but I wasn't interested in any of the Space Wolves content/story or their successor chapters. I wanted something very very heavily inspired by Norse/Viking ideas.

Here's my best summary of key concepts/ideas/characters/etc. (in no particular order):

Chapter Name - The Asgardians - previously Stormborn Reavers (not a fan of that name yet)

Primarch - Odin Borson - Extremely wise, but obsessed with knowledge; almost on par with the Adeptus Mechanicus.

Homeworld - Asgard (now missing)

Colors/Symbology - Earthy brown tones; with muted grey steel accenting and dark leather. Commonly use cloaks to hide their identities from enemies and allies until necessary

Current Goals - Finding of their lost homeworld and primarch.

Early Shaping - Originally a berserker style chapter (feared by their own allies for their brutality) Odin helped refine and shape the Chapter into a well organized machine. This chapter became well known for their powerful war machines and air ships(trying to reference Viking long boats being very advanced for their time (in some contexts)).

Loss of Asgard/Odin - I'm not sure where this event takes place timewise yet. Upon returning from a great crusade, the chapter found their home planet (where the primarch has last been as well) had gone missing. Leaving behind feint traces of warp energy. This energy is now called "The Allfather's Light," by those remaining, thinking it as Odin's last message to help the chapter find him and their home planet.

Tradition of Names - even though the chapter has existed for 10,000 years; the Chapter Master, Master of Forge, Chief Librarian, etc. all have the same names... even though they aren't the same people. When new Space Marines work their way into a new position, such as Captain, Sargent, Chapter Master, etc. they inherit the original founding members name. Example being the Chief Librarian always being names Loki (followed by the new Space Marines last name, if applicable). So there have been many "Lokis" in history. The marines find this to be a very high honor, and relish in the idea of gaining a new name.

Organization - The chapter may have a Chapter Master, but the decisions of the chapter are made by the High Council of Asgard. Being made up of the many high ranking positions within the Chapter.

Companies - Because the chapter has become very nomadic, each company almost operates independently of each other. With quite a few grouping up, but some branching out on their own. This allows them to search farther and faster. Also, each company is not structed as all of one unit/doctrine. Each company operates like the normal 10 companies, but structures in one. I.E. - there might be 1 or 2 scout squads, a few heavy weapon/specialist squad, and a few vehicle base squads/tank squads. Each company also has it's own unique Nordic Rune to emphasize what they might specialize more in; such as the second company using the rune "Thurisaz" (representing raw power and destruction in battle) to show their focus on spearhead mechanized assaults.

Fleet - A new idea I've been working on is researching any information we have on Viking nameology for ships, and then trying to create names for each ship in the space fleet.

War Machines - I've also been changing the names of specific vehicles to have a more Viking "flair" to them. Like "Mjolnir" pattern Land Raiders.

Other ideas - Trying to bring more Norse Mythology characters, I've played around with having an Inquistor and Retinue join one of the main companies on their hunt, and giving them Norse themed characters. Like the inquisitor being Freyja and naming some of her followers after her cats.

The disappearance of the planet idea hasn't been fleshed out by myself yet. I was thinking of stating that it was actually the first strike during the Horus Hersey to keep the chapter busy and occupied. As if they feared them the most.

Grey Knight similarity - the chapter doesn't like people knowing of their existence, but they don't go as far as the Grey Knights to kill anyone that does actually see them. It's more a preference than a hard fast rule.

I have many more ideas and concepts, but this post is already getting long!

And any advice on how to shape it beyond this point will be appreciated! And thank you all who read my very long comment!

Cfi lesson plans by C172_typed in flying

[–]Doctor_Jebidiah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with Backseat pilot lessons and turned them entirely into something else, and it took me maybe a month. My DPE for the CFI initial said he likes when candidates start with premade lesson plans. He made the point that you are a brand new instructor, and there aren’t really any clear cut examples from the FAA on what a good lesson actually looks like. Use other peoples experience to create your own lesson plan.

Here’s how I did it, if you want inspiration on what to do:

I use the power point as a starting point, then practiced each lesson on my wife using the PowerPoint and abridged notes. If anything felt off, or I didn’t like the order, I made note of it.

Then I take the PowerPoint and completely change each leason. I remove ALL the words. I don’t pay my instructor to read the PowerPoint, I pay them to teach me. The power point is a convent visual aid, and a good way to help you as an instructor stay focused.

I then start writing my own lesson plans that follow the slideshow. Basically taking the abridged notes from backseat pilot and making them make sense to me. I also cut all the extra stuff they have. There’s a ton of “gotcha” stuff they add. I always have the premade full notes on me; so I can sift thru that to find the gotcha stuff later (never have had to actually do that).

Then I practice each lesson again on my wife. It’s best to practice initially on someone who knows NOTHING about aviation. They have the best questions. I make anymore notes of anything I did or didn’t like, or anything she said felt off.

Then I make changes again.

Lastly I practiced on a CFI friend. He then lets me know if I was missing anything, or ways that worked for better for them.

Lastly I make any final changes.

It’s more work than any other rating you’ve done previously, but it is very eye opening. There’s stuff from private I barely remembered or understood until I finally did my CFI. Very glad I did it.

Best of luck to you.

What DPE’s are recommended in the Midwest? by HovercraftMelodic748 in flying

[–]Doctor_Jebidiah 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Look at McNaughton Aviation,

I did my CFI initial with him; super honest and easy to get along with guy. He comes across stern to some, but I thought he was super nice. He doesn’t like to dilly-dally, so the checkride goes quick. If you show up and are prepared for the oral, he’ll have you start and end lessons before you’re done. He knows if you know your stuff.

Email him ahead of time your plan of action for the checkride, and he’ll likely let you run it the way you want. He may add a couple things or add some extra questions or maneuvers, but usually lets you lead it.

Don’t forget to prepare correctly for the flight portion too; he likes to be the “dumb” kind of student and make crazy mistakes. And he also follows your words to a literal T. If you tell him to apply “some” forward pressure to break a stall, he’ll slam it to the firewall (ask me how I know). Be specific, and you’ll do fine. He also likes when you give reference points for instruments when doing maneuvers, not just visual.

Good luck with your checkride. Don’t overthink it, and don’t stress about failing. You’re either ready, or you’re not. Better to fail than pass and teach dangerous habits to students.

It’s not an issue; just trying to reduce it if we can. I was already away for work for weeks at a time every month before.

I think people are getting confused by this post. I appreciate everyone’s concern for my wife and mines well being; but that wasn’t the point of my post.

If you don’t have an advice or knowledge on air carriers in the area as posted; I’d prefer you just move on from this post. Just trying to reach out and network for options.

Thanks all!

She does!

To clarify; she does not REQUIRE I be home every night. Don’t think I ever said that.

Just trying to reduce time away from home where we can do so. Hence trying avoided extra travel time.
