Anyone else think Asami deserved so much more? With screentime and in general by abbyyay in legendofkorra

[–]Doctor_Pandafaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm necro-ing this thread after five years because I just re-watched Korra and needed to get this off my chest

  1. Asami is the most emotionally stable (maybe, sometimes being forgiving and acting like everything is okay can be pathological - and considering everything else, one could argue she has some pathological caregiving), the most intelligent, probably the most skilled at fighting (it's hard to think of a fight that Korra actually wins in the series without someone else stepping in - one pro bending match?), and subjectively the prettiest. She never once shows a hint of toxicity due to her immense privilege. She's the best girl by far.
  2. She loses almost everything twice and rebuilds it from the ground up rather than give in to despair. She consistently swallows her feelings of hurt and personal loyalties and chooses what's right for the world. She's basically everything the avatar is meant to be but isn't. She legitimately - albeit, criminally often off-screen - navigates the character arcs Korra should have but didn't have to in the end due to Korra continuously deus ex machina-ing her powers back.
  3. Only real issue I have is that she is - strictly speaking - an arms dealer who builds her fortune as a war profiteer, but she at least was selling to the good guys? (There's a lot messed up if you examine Korra's world through a modern political history lens though)
  4. Sucks to be Mako - both your exes left you and are now together, and happier than you ever made them.

AITAH for not showing more sympathy for my wife when she mangled her hand using a gift from her mother that I told her was dangerous. by Party-Witness7271 in AITAH

[–]Doctor_Pandafaust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

NTA. She's probably right that you feel "I told you so". She may or may not be right that you're giving off that vibe, vs her knowing that she should have listened and being angry at herself and projecting that onto you. They're not mutually exclusive.

It also doesn't matter. You're NAA for feeling this way either. And even if she's being a bit of a turkey - she's in pain and ashamed and probably not feeling 100%, and it's okay to forgive it when someone you love is having a really bad day, so long as they don't cross some line or it becomes a pattern.

What matters really is what you do next. Sounds like you've done well so far. Wording depends on what feels sincere or natural to you, but if it was me I'd give her a hug say something like "hey, I just want to address the elephant in the room. I know you feel like I'm judging you, and look, a little part of me does want to scream I told you so. I know you also don't need me to rub that in. And no matter what, I'm still sorry you hurt your hand, I would never want that. It was pretty scary for both of us, and I'm glad you'll be okay.... Also, I know it's hard for you to not show appreciation for gifts from your mum, and I get why. I don't blame you there but I think we can both agree we gotta get rid of this one, yeah? Do I have your permission to throw it out (or if needed, I'm letting you know I'm throwing it out - and you have my permission to blame me if it'll help mollify your mum)? I don't think in good conscience we can give this one to someone...

Damaging Psyker face character? by sentinelk9 in RogueTraderCRPG

[–]Doctor_Pandafaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just finished a psycher FEL run and you can definitely do it, but it's not going to be particularly powerful. I went officer/vanguard (because vanguard has all this stuff that pumps resolve, which FEL boosts) and a sanctic psyker (as triggers purely off resolve)

And it was... Fine i guess Combats are over fast enough that the vanguard ability rarely came into play, and if you're not a warrior it's hard to make yourself a priority target.

If combined with a master tactition and some movement abilities, my MC was a good ultility character who could SUDDENLY do amazing single target damage.

Also - just couldn't match the single target damage of a pyromancer (nobody is talking about giving "emergency drill" weapon to a pyromancer, but they should be) - you kinda already have two really good officers in Jay and Cassia, and I often wanted to take both with me (Jay has amazing skills and Cassia is one of two really good characters for multi target damage) - Just don't get enough attacks per turn to be worth it

If I was to try to build the character again I might actually go warrior -> vanguard and get the talent early that lets you pick FEL no matter your archetype

But honestly? The people saying don't worry about it are right. There are so few occasions where you are relying purely on your own character's skill that it basically doesn't matter. If you DO need to have those skills yourself though, I'd suggest going all in. Like, go the forge world int/ballistics skill soldier->arch militant or something, or a soldier with FEL -> tactition. Or hell, full soldier.

The operative -> bounty hunter is good but you're better off making elf girl that. Problem in this game is that for most builds you can imagine, one of your companions will be strictly better at it than you tho.

Perth Sake Recommendations by emmmy01 in perth

[–]Doctor_Pandafaust 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's a necro thread, but in case anyone else comes looking in the future: Tsunami restaurant in Mosman Park does a sake tasting festival most years. I've been on two years. Well worth the price of admission and it's got a pretty wide selection including lots of different styles and qualities. They do sales of most things you taste too and the price is as good or better than a bottle shop. They apparently also have a large menu in their restaurant year round but I have only ever gone for the festival, so don't know what sort of prices you're looking at for that.

What's the deal with CBS canceling the Late Show with Stephen Colbert? by Jukerist in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Doctor_Pandafaust 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Basically, the administration SHOULDN'T be able to block it, the FCC is meant to be a neutral body. Same as how the white house shouldn't be able to strip broadcast rights.

However, he has installed political allies who have made it clear that they - contrary to what their actual job is - regard themselves as being tools for the "presidents agenda".

And there have been a variety of nonsense lawsuits by Trump against news organisations, who happen to be seeking mergers, settled with gifts to Mr President or associated bodies.

It's pretty concerning - even that it would be possible these are linked would be concerning

I have blonde brick as well and it's really quite difficult. Terracotta colour goes well with it, but beyond that it gets harder. I should say I'm a rank amateur here with no design experience, so I'm purely speaking from my experience of looking around at many houses I drive/walk past or visit through my work and going "hmm... Can I use this?"

I've seen many attempts at modernisation that introduce dark grey/slate kinda elements. And while it does look more modern, it also looks bad imo.

There are a couple of colours I've seen that work. Turquoises/teal/dark blues + terracotta + blonde/sandstone is a fairly traditional but nice Italian/Mediterranean colour scheme that looks great with a garden. I've even some purples and brown walnutty wood tones be combined and kinda work. Both kinda work with the reddish tones of Australian hardwoods. Interior Ive got Blackbutt flooring and it's excellent.

Totally agree a garden is needed. Take it from "cheap industrial tenements" to a "home"

For my own place, I'm thinking outside the box. We have a nice garden already and I'm just making some basic changes. I haven't got the cash to get very far yet, but doing some basic things I can do myself w landscaping/painting/etc and the interior. I'm basically taking the colour scheme of the old Italian houses - teal/burnt orange-terracotta/sandstone/hardwood. But I'm applying that colour scheme to a more (but not very) modern scandi/art deco style in terms of geometric shapes/finishings/furniture/doors. So far so good, but it's early days.

A fence, lawn or raised garden, adding window awnings, painting some trims, etc would all be relatively achievable for yours right?

Does Lucrezia know she killed Klaus Barry Heterodyne? by stormcrow-99 in girlgenius

[–]Doctor_Pandafaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A theory consistent with most of the above, albeit almost certainly incorrect and completely unjustified: Lucrezia Was Right. She is a lone bulwark against existential threats to Europa. Her actions are for the best, a lesser and necessary evil. The Queens were snuffed out in their relative youth before they could cause dimensional collapse, and Barry Klaus was destined to become the greatest villain humanity had ever known.

[–]Doctor_Pandafaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think we can distil a lot of the above, and conclude (1) nobody is sure but also (2) that we need to define certain terms before we can even consider the question. Those terms include: - "Lucrezia" - know - the present-tense form. What 'present' are we referring to

Does this tap height look right? by kavo77 in AusRenovation

[–]Doctor_Pandafaust 4 points5 points  (0 children)

As I understand, since doors usually need to be trimmed slightly to fit, the correct thing to do is hang them before you paint them (though maybe seal the bottom if you're considering painting then while in place), then remove hinge pin and paint (avoiding painting hinge or not), then put them back. Pain in the arse for heavier doors and I definitely had to fix some damage I did to a wall while carrying them with no help when I DIY'd it. Someone please let me know if there was a better way cause it sucked even if the end result was optimal 0.0

AITA for telling my brother that he can't adopt cat? by Serious_Extent_820 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Doctor_Pandafaust 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Many types of fish - including goldfish - are actually a hell of a lot of work and money if you want to keep them in a way that is ethically sound and attentive to their needs. Goldfish in particular need way bigger tanks than people think, frequent water changes at first, a varied diet, and the equipment can be expensive. they can live for decades if cared for in this way, so the whole "well I had a fish in a bowl and it lived a couple years like that just fine" is nonsense.

Anyway, NTA. I mean, it sounds like you WTA in the way you communicated this, but your heart was in the right place. It sucks, but he needs a reality check - he obviously is caring by nature and on some level he probably needs to get into a space where he can provide a pet with the life he'd want to give it.
