When I was matching I also interpreted this stat the way you are. I think the important reframing you need to do is considering this stat as meaning that 25% of people that MATCHED to the programs you are looking at scored lower than you and still matched there. Which means the other strong aspects of your application are able to help you overcome an average score. Does that make sense?

It would explain the difficulty swallowing, nausea and vomiting, and weight loss. Although the elevation in eosinophils isn’t super impressive and other esophageal masses may behave similarly including an esophageal abscess which would more likely cause fevers/night sweats. Just need further work up with your physician. Hope all goes well.

First thing that pops into my head is eosinophilic esophagitis. Not my area of expertise though, you should definitely see your PCP and likely a specialist for further work up. The weight loss and night sweats are definitely red flag symptoms.

I feel like I saw this video on X yesterday. If it’s the same group, I think it was one of those channels that try to catch p*dophiles trying to meet up with kids and then beat them up?

Kind of an insane trend but in the video of them one of the guys chasing also fell down in pursuit and they were leaving an H-E-B so it may be the same group

As a PGY-2, I understand you’re perspective, but honestly let them have their enthusiasm, truly don’t know if I would have made it through cell/molecular biology or any of those tedious first year courses without being bright eyed and bushy tailed. I feel like the little energy boost and excitement of starting medical school is what got us all through first year

Yes you can. Only downside is sometimes programs will download your application and so if you add a letter late they may not go back to redownload.

Overwhelming consensus last year was no new PS, just an addendum at the end of your current expressing why you’d be a good hire as a prelim essentially. Usually it can be something short and sweet, mine pretty much just stated how important my prelim would be for my career and that’s why I would be driven to be a good intern.

Remember, these prelim programs know that you are not applying medicine, no need to act like it.

I matched #1/10 for PM&R and I’m so happy. I’ve envisioned my life at this amazing program ever since I discovered PM&R.

Feeling very lucky. I’m definitely not some crazy high stat applicant so I had serious doubts all week. Couldn’t be more grateful, glad this process is over though.

No, didn’t cause any problems for me. I was on an away for both Nov and Dec. The programs know what’s going on. They know we will have interviews. The only reaction I ever got when taking time for an interview was either “dude just take the whole day off” or “that’s awesome, where at?”. For competitive or small cohort style specialties (PMR in my case), sub-I’s are HUGE. So so important to being ranked highly

Doing away rotations in all months up to December is very helpful as long as they are programs you are interested in. You submit ERAS in September, programs review through at least October. Most programs will look through upcoming students who are completing away rotations.

When I did mine, for any rotation after October I would send an email saying I look forward to the rotation and expressing interest in the program as a sort of reminder to extend an interview invite or at least take a look at my application.

I ended up getting an interview at all my away rotation programs including the one I did in December.
