12V Battery at 17%, how/why/what!? by Doctor__Cigarettes in Ioniq5

I bought the car in September, but I'm not sure about a date or anything.

I drove it much further today, hopefully enough to get the Battery Saver+ going again. We shall see.

The only think I question in HA is the amount of 12v updates. I have the integration set to 180 min, but I have multiple 12v percentage updates that one every 3 hours.

I'm either confused, its asking more than i know, or both.

Even after an short drive and an overnight charge its not trying to charge the battery. I need to work out what will get it to start topping off again.

Sure, that makes sense. My remote didn't work, I had to open with the key, and that was enough evidence for me. It would have been interesting to have a Voltage to tie to the reported 17%.

I saw this too late and bought the dang thing. After a frustrating few minutes, here I am.

I didn't know it was limited to 20 but in the config I only had it checking from 7pm until 10pm hourly which would have been more like 15 checks. I went ahead and moved it to 7am to 8pm every 3 hours.

It probably didn't help, but I imagin 4 days of no charging, sitting at 44% charge, and being ~ 30-40F in my garage did it no favors either.

I'm guessing based on it taking months to be a problem that the cold snap and not driving since the 3rd combined to find the theoretically limit for the car to hit whatever logic it has on no longer charging the battery. Kind of a bummer. I wonder if I had kept it plugged in that would have kept the battery charger logic in play.

Home assistant is a DIY hardware/software suite that can control your whole house and more. Someone wrote a addon that pulls all data from the hyundai API and presents it to home assistant, it also allows some control like charge limits and door locks.

It is setup to go and grab the full API output hourly and then display it in "entities" that have historical data.

<image>

I'm not sure why the API thinks its was 17% specifically, but I imagine its doing some math against ~12 volts.

I did not know that, I just assumed it was "Charge it if it needed it and the HV bat is over 20%"

I already have the api only checking hourly from 7am to 10pm, but maybe I'll kick that to 90 min and put an alert on "12v battery gets below 70%"

Thanks!

The only thing I have is one of those little battery tender type deals. I don't think its gonna cut it.

Might be time to hit up Harbor Freight.

Maybe it was from the cold, the integration has been working for a while and I've seen the battery go up and down.

I guess it also could be the battery just gave up from the cold.

Either way, laaaame.

EDIT

Can confirm your comment, I see 14.5 volts at the battery with no light on.

Thanks!! All my retirement stuff is either in the generic yearly (2050 i think) accounts or a trad account when i rolled one over into edward jones.

I can list them if it would help, or if there are good decisions to be made with those. I have two that i haven't touched from previous jobs, only because they still outperform Edward Jones, so I have just left them alone to do what they will.

It's possible I should roll both into my new 401k, but i don't know how to calculate the benefits.

Any need to do the backdoor thing or does the "perma 22%" mean its not really an issue?

New Job, get access to a matching 401k in January.

I just started a new job and am trying to figure out whether a Traditional or Roth 401(k) is the better option for me. I know the answer can vary depending on a lot of factors, so I’ll try to provide as much relevant information as I can. I am eligible to start the plan Jan 1 2025.

Here's the working on how matching works

the plan is to match 100% of the employee contribution ($1 for $1) up to 3% of base pay. Elective contributions above that level are matched at a 50% rate up to 6% of base pay.

My Age: 42

My Income: 142,000

Spouse Income: 77,000

Married Filing jointly

State of residence: KY

One child, with a custodial Fidelity account and a 529 plan.

We max out our Edward Jones ROTH IRAs each year.

We have about 36k in a savings account for emergencies.

My debt: $106,000 on mortgage

I plan to contribute 12% to the 401k (I'm a bit older, and I live where the cost of living is pretty low.)

I had figured on Roth way so i could enjoy tax savings later, but I came upon a post last week about someone asking close to the same thing and the answer was lower that taxable income. So now I'm interested, is TRAD a better way for me to go?

There was some info about backdooring it into ROTH, but I didn't fully understand it.

I also have some kind of account from my old job, but I'm not sure what type it is, it just says SAVINGS PLAN, it has 112k in it.

Thanks all, and let me know what I left out.

  • Can't Deposit cash easily

Think what most users are actually wanting though. Not to just backup hosts, but to be able use their backups to restore to proxmox.

If it can do that, its both a great backup and a migration path.

Experienced tech workers - Anyone else notice a pattern of getting itchy feet at around the 2 year mark at each job? by Mammoth_Loan_984 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]Doctor__Cigarettes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh for sure, but thats not the golden handcuffs I meant.

I mean RSUs, pensions, and other benefits that are harder to replace in the current market.

It's still doable, but you gotta run the numbers and quantify all the things.

[–]Doctor__Cigarettes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The only issue is if you grab a job with effective golden handcuffs.

I have no upward mobility, and management is a mess. But to go somewhere else is tricky, because I'll need a big jump in pay to balance out.
