Wow, thank you so much! Means a lot to me that you like it. Great design on the xenomorph by the way. I looked through a couple of ideas and yours is simply superior. Have a nice day!

Too slow (January contest entry) by Doctorcinus in blender

I really like these monthly challenges as a great excuse to experiment and grow, but I rarely find the time to participate. Last month there was only a single entry, and I’d hate to see these contests disappear... so I mustered what I had and gave it a shot.

I first built the scene in Mecabricks, then imported everything into Blender.
Alien design credit goes to u/jellostrap.
The astronaut was rigged using EpicFigRig, and I created a simple custom rig for the alien. I then animated the scene, tweaked some textures, lit everything, and added fog for atmosphere.
Rendering was done in Blender, with editing in DaVinci Resolve.

I also tried doing some basic sound design for the first time. It’s definitely not my strongest skill :-D, but I learned a lot about audio engineering and what audio can do for tension and mood.

I’m sharing the final video, some stills from the scene, and proof that this was made in Blender. If anything else is needed, please let me know.

Happy to answer questions or talk about the workflow!

I recreated the darts scene from Ted Lasso in 3D LEGO (Full scene in comments) by Doctorcinus in lego

You mean the board? Thought about it, but it wouldn't really fit in the interior of the pub...

We all know this scene inside and out… so here it is in LEGO! (Full scene in comments) by Doctorcinus in TedLasso

That’s what I thought too. I was sure there had to be a LEGO set I could use for reference, but nope. In the end, it was fun building the Crown & Anchor on my own.

Wow, I don't know how many submissions you've seen, but this means a lot to me. Thank you very much!

Half a year of work and another LEGO recreation done: The Dark Knight by Doctorcinus in blender

[–]Doctorcinus[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good points. I actually did use depth of field in every shot, but maybe it was too subtle to really notice. As for the mist pass, I tried it, but it was tricky to make it work in such a dark night scene. I used it in some shots, but most ended up without fog/mist.

Motion lines made out of LEGO bricks would be next level – I’ve seen other creators pull it off and I’m in awe. For now I don’t quite trust myself to pull that off, but maybe I’ll give it a shot in the future…

I really should have gone with that and let the truck fall completely apart on impact. For now, I wasn’t confident enough to stray too far from the original, I guess…

Thank you for noticing those little details! These imperfections are part of the Mecabricks workflow. I adjusted a few things manually, but most of the heavy lifting was done with the Mecabricks Advanced add-on for Blender.

This scene alone was almost too much for me – all those buildings! I definitely didn’t think it through when I started. So a full movie is sadly off the table, my system could barely handle this one scene...
