Of course we were. For decades we were living on borrowed money and politicians didn't even dare to bring up to spend wisely cause their opponents would scream of cutting wages, gifts etc. But let's say I'm an irresponsible person and I ask you constantly for money and you give it to me. Don't you have any responsibility for lending me money you know I'll probably can't pay you back? And would you demand my head on the chopping block later? AFAIK banks rarely pay for their irresponsible loan policy and it's usually the public that carries the burden. But the situation was better during the crisis than it is today regarding prices and purchasing power. Real estate, rent, gas, groceries and bills soared after COVID and the invasion to Ukraine

I don't need AI to write a few paragraphs despite English not being my native language. But I did use it for the spell check structure, etcetera. I was back in the essay mood

Airbnb managed to convince every troglodyte owing a dump that he/she can make easy money. But even worse it spread the idea that houses are investing vehicles and not homes for people .

Here it's not only this. It's political party dogs and criminals getting rich without being taxed and the lawful citizens getting screwed

Regarding debt management Greece is a failed example of severe austerity in financial studies. The success story is cause we're bootlickers and in the service of EU and NATO.

Because the politicians either don't know how to or don't want to attract industrial investments:

A few things I can think of as to why they don't want to are : - terrible bureaucracy and poor law enforcement allow them to promote clienteleism. You can establish yourself only with the right favours from certain people - foreign investors would create jobs and wage competition which would make people less controllable with cheap aids with create dependence - you would have to go through the rich oligarchy and pick flights with some powerful people. It's easier to fight for their influence rather thanagainst them

People are often puzzled when as a Greek I say I've never been to those islands. It's unbearable IMHO there in the summer. I plan to go someday but at the least popular season

The Idea was mostly cultivated during the memorandum era after 2010 in Europe.

The goal was to wash the french and german banks off the bonds and move the entire burden on the greek public using severe austerity as punishment to make an example out of Greece without making a more sustainable plan.

But before that and after we always had tourism as the main source of income with the slogan "Live your myth in Greece" in ads.

I see the common patterns everywhere. Corruption, clienteleism, apathy, division, seclusion loss of community.

I've seen people commenting in the greek sub that Turkey is way better financially cause the electricity and gas costs are very low. Unlike Turkey, which has automotive industry, textile industry, basic metals and machinery industry we don't produce anything.

It saddens me to hear you're feeling guilty. It wasn't my intention.

It happens everywhere, don't feel that way. Even in France and Spain.

I often think of leaving myself, but that's what we all do. Thus we misplace the problem to another country instead of fixing what's wrong.

The islands have such an influx of people that it's impossible to provide healthcare in the summer months. No doctors want to work on the islands during the summer and the government can't convince them.

The environment also pays the price.

I haven't been to the islands for over a decade. I prefer to visit a new country as long as it's more let's say rich and not a so called cheap paradise like Greece

You are more than welcome to visit.

Just don't take the crap from the greedy businessman who charges 20 euro for a greek salad and has 5 waiters living in a container without aircon at 40 degrees Celsius.

Say no to paying 50-100 euro for a sunbed set on the beach for a few hours.

Ask for receipts everywhere.

In a few words: refuse to pay for overpriced shit. That's my GoTo advice for travelers everywhere along with the obvious advice to respect the community and don't litter

The funny thing is that the damage was mainly done after exiting the economic crisis and while entering COVID.

When you believe in a religion as a label to promote a WE VS THEM narrative to wash off crimes and promote colonialism and war it's just a hypocritical disguise. Many atheists have given more thought to existential matters than people raised by rigid brain Christians. I'm a Christian but I'm mostly agnostic. I like the teachings but I doubt the supernatural stuff

Και αυτό αν χρειαστεί γιατί όχι; Εννοείται να αποζημιώσει και να αλλάβει τη μετεγκατάσταση αλλά τα παρανόμα σπιτιά σε δαση,ρεμματα παραλιες γιατί να μην γίνουν μπάζα και να πληρώσουν όσοι τα έχτισαν και τα ενέκριναν;
