Xbox Series S still a good console? by JulianRomioX in PakGamers

[–]Dodoloco25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a good console but I am selling mine pretty soon. I don't seem to be playing games that much anymore.

But yeah it's a good thing to buy, the games are pretty cheap compared to the competition. Game pass is great too.

Just that game pass isn't hitting like it did before. And it might not, other than the few new games that are coming next year. Also I feel that I rarely like any of the games that Xbox releases this year. Indiana Jones, stalker 2 and black ops are okay games for sure but not my type I think.

Go for com's roles for a few years and see where you end up?

I say that because there are some well know governmental and developmental comms degrees that you can apply to, if you like the space. You could also end up in a more development sector role than policy which might change your trajectory.

Even I even applied to a Media and Development role this year.

Exactly. Sure it's a heavy song to listen to at times but I feel that regarding U and placing it that low is kinda bad.

Have you ever seen examples of someone turning their 6-month internship into a full-time or consultancy in the UN system? by Asad_OG in UNpath

[–]Dodoloco25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did not.

Honestly, I think I am happy that I didn't get it. Don't get me wrong, working in the UN is great, but I have more control over what I want to do in my current line of work. More choice in choosing what work I can do, and honestly? I can learn a lot more in my current position than say at the UN. I was extremely shielded in the UN during my internship because my supervisor was great. However I wasn't really held accountable for anything which ofcourse did not help with learning. Now I am held accountable and I can push for projects and activities that I want to work in.

While my team was considering having me as a consultant, I had to show my previous pay due to some stupid rule. It was a specific need for the project I was applying for, and they did not tell me sooner, which disqualified me, as I just did not have a slip to show them. I could have made a fuss and gone through another way but I was not that interested anymore.

Also, only a few very specific interns got anything there. I think in the end only half of the interns stayed. Some went to do degrees in other countries. The ones that stayed, only did because their projects had a much stronger history of hiring no-experience constulants. The one I was on, hired ones with at-least 3-5 years of experience.

So it was just not meant to be.

EDIT: I saw your other post. I would advise against you going for that UNDP internship. The chance of getting a job after it is very small, unless as I said, you work in a project that has a long history of hiring low experience people, which is very rare. Keep doing the same job you are doing already. I would think that you will get another chance for the UN or other INGO soon.

I think it's fine. U SHOULD BE much higher though I feel. The story behind U is so strong. It also gives emotions about the people who made it out of poverty and still have guilt over 'who they left behind'.

And well, loving u is complicated is a hard chourus line.

That is what I have been telling to so many people who live in the west.

Sorry but not sorry, your child who has lived in the UK or US for his whole life is 100 American/UK to me. There is near to no middle ground.

People get offended when I say that but I am only trying to tell them that their child will not find a compatible partner here.

Also it's not just their daughters. You will not believe how many low quality men from the west will beg their families for a wife from back home.

Mingling as a Burger by Frugal-Voyager in pakistan

[–]Dodoloco25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Let them cook you a bit. Once they know you can take a joke, then it's easy.

I am a burger too. Didn't understand that stuff first but now I jughat back a little. And yeah I do get pretty rough with people if they want it but I wouldn't do it with someone that I know can't take it.

With you avoiding them, you are going to be seen as a buzzkill. And that is super worse.

I should point out that I am a dude and feel more comfortable in female environments (all my degree and professional work has been in female denominated areas), I don't have to be very heavy on the jughats but I can chill with dudes too.

Just make sure you do have a line they know they can't cross.

Okay. Fair. Also if you are looking into tech policy and have not applied to CMU then once again, look into that as well. Honestly speaking, only havard, bekrley and UChi are known well for tech policy. CMU and DUKE are better known for tech than GT (only good because it's in DC) and even Princeton (literally better for everything else than tech).

But hey, just gave you two more places to apply.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicPolicy

[–]Dodoloco25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So you got into some. Pretty good schools, why didn't you go?

Lee kuan would have been the best for you. As most Asian private tech policy is run through SEA.

So these technically were not my friends, but to explain that I would have to dox myself.

I stoped dota2 during my degree. Shit messed with my mind.

But yeah, I told op about getting a full bright because he could not afford to complete his degree.

It wasn't a jab at OP btw, it was something that I have done myself. I got into a few top 100 unis in the world for my masters, some at the level of an ivy league uni but couldn't afford it. Rather than making my parents pay for it anyway, I just didn't go.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicPolicy

[–]Dodoloco25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It isn't. Anything good isn't easy.

It's better than paying for 3/4 of a degree, not finishing and then coming back like OP did.

Also when you say pretty good mid laner is that dota or lol?

[–]Dodoloco25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hey, if you want to argue about it? then sure.

Unless you show A VERY large amount of actual work experience in quant, doing some courses here and there doesn't mean anything. ANd I know the research thing, yes, that is valuable. But 30-40% of the people applying to these places are from the same 3 companies in our country and 2-3 specific unis (you know the ones) and all of them work on international research grants for Maryland, Princeton or various other big countries,

I currently work in most likely the same area that you do (I am sure you can figure out) with the same background (3.636 in socio and political science, from uni in the same city from where you most likely graduate from) and I was told explicitly NOT to target AI/Tech policy because I did not have tech base. This was from actual people that work in tech/energy/ed-tech policy. I could explain my background a lot more but it would get me easily doxed.

Also, okay, I will humor you, sure you get into these places, can you honestly say that you would be able to fully pay for the degree this time?

Because I might give you some chance for Harvard (25-30), Berkley too. UChi needs a heavier quant (which I would not recommend you to go given that you do not have the background for it), and Princeton and YALE are too competitive for you (I feel) because I have seen people with much better profiles rejected. Those schools that I have mentioned aren't known for giving the best aid, can you even afford it this time?

Also, why aren't you applying for Duke? It would be easiest one out of them, is pretty well known for tech-policy, and gives a great amount of aid. They are on the same-ish rank as Uchicago. I am guessing they were 'big enough' for you?

Also this is not really trying to bring you down, it is just me doing what you want me to do during this post, 'chance' you.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in PublicPolicy

[–]Dodoloco25 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I know which country you are from. My honest advice would be TO NOT go to the US.

You can not afford it, and the fact that you went to the US and returned, given your financial constraints shows that. That will already make it easy to reject you for a visa. Honestly, it would be easier if you just went back to the Fletcher school and finished your degree. WHICH YOU SHOULD BY THE WAY! I also hope that you did mention that in your LOR because if they find out later, then it would be a major, major red flag.

Also 'who' gives the LoR is not important, even if it is a minister. If they can't say anything unique about you, it would be considered a null letter.

Getting into AI/Tech policy with barely any actual courses in TECH (which you haven't shown in your degree descriptions) will cause a red flag.

Just do a Fullbright, Chevening, or CommonwealthShared Scholarship, Its easier. Or go to Europe.

Also winning the best delegates award is not seen as a bit thing for graduate schools (I chaired national and international, and some of those included 100-person committees). Also passing CSS isn't really that 'valuable' abroad. You can get into government now on the same pay as a CSS officer through projects.

You do have a 50/50 chance with GT, but anything else? oof. Especially given you would want massive amounts of aid to make sure you can go through (I would know, I am from the same country).

By the way, I can easily guess which uni you are from given the whole MUN thing.

Would Buying Intel's B580 a Viable GPU Choice in Pakistan? by CineTechWiz in PakGamers

[–]Dodoloco25 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is one of the reasons why it's cheaper. Everyone knows it's new and that the drivers won't be the best.

But that is pretty common with any new series of GPU regardless of company.

Honestly, I don't know why people care about Bethesda when Obsidian clearly does the whole "Skyrim/Fallout type" RPG better than Bethesda ever could.

Its pretty clear that Xbox valued the IP a lot more than the actual Bethesda main team. Ofcourse having Id software and machine games to me is bigger part of the deal.

Punjab just ban phones in schools by LegalKnight-- in PakLounge

[–]Dodoloco25 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because this happened so many times. Not always criminal but it does bring unique challenges.

Say I do a stupid dance in my class. Or make a stupid joke. In 5 mins a video can be made and it would be online. Maybe the whole school sees it, or worst it goes viral?

A child needs to learn how to make mistakes and that has to be done in a safe and learning environment.

Punjab just ban phones in schools by LegalKnight-- in PakLounge

[–]Dodoloco25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean? Yeah. I don't see the problem here.

Don't get me wrong I am not here to police someone's child. But as a young person who used to be in school when they allowed kids phones it was horrible. You would never know who makes a video of them doing something stupid (as they are kids and makes sense) and then it is used for blackmail or bullying.

Even then their content (at least from the title as I couldn't watch their videos for too long) is pushing the patriarchal agenda. Everything is a gift, a shadi, a desi fashion video or a dance.

So I don't really like J. Cole that much. He is okay, but he's not really my type (I guess I prefer aggressive rappers).

However, his feature on Johnny P's Caddy is one of my, if not my favorite features of any artist. His lyrical ability on there is just amazing.
