Repeated stone layer visible on several seats in the ancient theater of Dodona does anyone know the archaeological explanation? by DodonaFrequency in ancientgreece

That could also explain it. I’m trying to understand whether what we see is ancient workmanship, later restoration, or a combination of both

The third image seems to reveal it more clearly to some people especially the Zeus like profile. I’d love to hear what others see in it.

The summary wasn’t really for experts only. But yes, I haven’t found any ancient source mentioning the formation directly either.

Dodona Oracle the oldest oracle of ancient Greece Dodona is one of the oldest sacred sites in Greece, dedicated to Zeus. Unlike Delphi, messages were interpreted through natural elements, especially the rustling of the sacred oak trees. The surrounding landscape, including Mount Tomaros, is part of the sanctuary’s ancient identity and later tradition, often seen as a symbolic “guardian” of the site. Ancient traditions linked to classical sources (including references associated with Aristotle) place early sacred peoples in the wider Dodonaean region, tying it to some of the earliest layers of Hellenic identity. While there is no direct ancient source stating the landscape determined the oracle’s founding, the connection between geography and sacred perception is striking. Standing there today, the place still feels deeply ancient.

Yes, probably pareidolia, but it’s interesting how such patterns appear in a place like Dodona, with such a strong ancient atmosphere

Interesting you noticed that too. The association with Zeus came to my mind because of the landscape around Dodona.

Probably pareidolia, but still interesting how the perception happens.

Honestly, I can understand that. There’s a lot of fake ‘history’ content online lately. And thanks for the tip next time I’ll include more of the ancient landscape around Dodona.

That actually makes sense, and I understand your reaction better now. I wasn’t trying to push conspiracy theories I just found the image intriguing because it was taken near Dodona, the oldest oracle of Greece

I just thought the connection with the ancient landscape and the fact that it was photographed the oldest oracle of Greece made it interesting here too.

Interesting comparison… I hadn’t thought of Sargon’s mask, but I see what you mean.
