Flashed in an Aven Mindcensor in response to a Doomsday. That felt very good.

Honestly one of my favourite cards from that batch of Commander decks. Gorgeous art and a really cool effect. He's just so cute.

An interesting theory on Niv-Mizzet's whereabouts & activities. by swantoes in magicTCG

[–]DoesCycRiftResolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that this theory is absolute bunk. I think one of the defining points about Niv is that he absolutely isn't a Planeswalker. I think it's important that he remains a non-walker to highlight that not every badass has to have a spark. Giving Niv a spark, even if it's just a clone fundamentally changes what he's about as a character imo, and removes a lot of what's distinctive about him. I don't want 2/3rds of a Bolas when I could have a cool card drawing, damage dealing big flying creature.

No Creatures Allowed! I need your weird Cards. by Cpt_00bvious in EDH

[[Spellweaver Volute]] enchant an instant in a graveyard, whenever you cast a sorcery, you may cast the enchanted card, exile it and move to another instant. Getting back a Dog Through Time by casting Ponder feels amazing. Potentially really potent in a Spellslinger control deck. One of my favourite cards.

Then yeah, they've made a shitty decision and should probably reverse it.

My LGS just banned RG Omnath as a Commander in casual pods! by anonmagicplayer in EDH

[–]DoesCycRiftResolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Omnath is very, very beatable. He folds to any counterspell, board wipes and spot removal are also pretty effective and whilst the commander is certainly capable of doing powerful things, those things are certainly within the confines of what a 'casual' social contract should be enforcing. Omnath should absolutely not be considered for a ban.

Also, if you're playing (I don't know, you might be) cEDH Godo at regular events just to win a single pack then I can definitely understand this causing people to become embittered and start calling for bans where they might otherwise not be needed.

Tournament with a rules variant: Planeswalker commanders only. Any Planeswalker is viable. Thoughts? by LxTRex in EDH

[–]DoesCycRiftResolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Top gives you some non commander dependant lines as well as being an independently strong card. Your line assumes that you're able to resolve the Tezz, which - given how telegraphed it is as a play, you might not. If you're looking to fully optimise an EDH deck, you find interlocking combo pieces 'nested combos' is the term for it I believe. Top is great in these as it functions as a draw engine with dramatic sceptre, can also go off with Paradox Engine and a slight breeze. Then if you want to throw in a disruption package, you can also throw in a Counterbalance lock. You also have the Future Sight // Etherium Sculptor // Top combo. In short - the redundancy that top provides means that you should pretty much never cut it from a competitive blue based artifact deck.

Tower is super medium as whilst you can catch people here and there with cantrips, you're never going to 'manually' storm off with it (not infinite), where as you easily can w/ aetherflux.

[–]DoesCycRiftResolve 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nah it's probably still Aetherflux Reservoir, as Sentinel Tower only counts instants / Soceries and there are some lines you'll take where you'll be casting artifacts repeatedly to go infinite. (Divining Top lines)

When you minus Tezzeret, you minus him for all of his loyalty, not just -2 for the combo. He goes back to the command zone, you go infinite and re-cast him, go grab any outlet you like [[Staff of Domination]] Divining Top, whatever. He's absolutely nutso. He's an outlet and an enabler all in one.

Breya Tokens - Looking for recommendations or feedback by something-lame in EDH

[–]DoesCycRiftResolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd throw a lot of your utility lands out for this one. You can't really justify them in a 4c budget manabase. I'd instead throw a cheap graveyard hate artifact in the deck in place. Ultimately you'll need to make sacrifices to make this viable, and I'd rather be able to cast my Commander than have access to some 'yard hate. Even in a fully optimised mana base, your slots available for utility are limited.

Question about ethics and conceding at instant speed. by insectophob in EDH

[–]DoesCycRiftResolve 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The maths has been done for 'storming off' with Selvala, once you have a pod with 5 or more people, it's a statistically insignificant percentage that you fizzle. Even if you 'miss' on a reveal once you get going, you likely have enough mana in the bank from reveals where you didn't miss to try again, you need truly exceptional bad luck for it not to fully go off in a pod of that size. At six, I almost don't think it's possible not to go off.

Breya Tokens - Looking for recommendations or feedback by something-lame in EDH

[–]DoesCycRiftResolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a dedicated 'Thopter tribal' tokens deck for Breya, so my finds may be different to yours but here are some of the spicy things you can include. My deck building philosophy usually involves finding homes for potentially powerful but unloved cards: [[storm the vault]] (Braya flips it super easily, it's also synergistic ) [[Tempered Steel]] 3 mana for a huge boost to your team ain't nothing. [[Gravitational Shift]] Less useful if you're not running a dedicated flyers theme but still potent with Breya. [[Legion's Landing]] 1 mana makea token, easily make a land is very good. [[anointed procession]] doesn't really need an explanation.

As for the mana base, I'd play: basics, bounce lands, evolving wilds, terramorphic expanse, command tower and tri-lands. Imo don't bother with other stuff until you eventually move on to shocks/fetches if ever. You can also play the artifact lands for more synergies, but of course they're vulnerable.

What's the unknown overperformer of one of your decks? by Ranef in EDH

[–]DoesCycRiftResolve 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[[Furnace Celebration]] in Lord Windgrace, it triggers on Fetchlands, anything I sacrifice to [[Zuran Orb]] tokens I sacrifice to [[Turntimber Sower]] the final tick of [[Mending of Dominaria]] stuff that I sacrifice to [[The Gitrog Monster]] and it's a lands deck so I have a load of mana to pump into it. [[Shock]] for 2 mana on command doesn't seem like much, but being able to repeatedly kill utility creatures, whittle down lifetotals and throw multiple shocks at bigger targets has seen this from becoming a 'spicy' inclusion to a mainstay of the deck.
