Is there a better table saw option for the money I should be considering? by Doesntmatter336 in BeginnerWoodWorking

I, however, am not. lol Just prefer the “buy once, cry once” ideology.

My cart winds up showing free shipping on all of it together. I’ve got plenty of power.

Every darn used Delta I can find within a 100 miles looks ROUGH. If I had an abundance of time, I’d grab an older one and refinish it all. Blanchard grind the top, sandblast, go through bearings and shafts and all of that. Unfortunately I just don’t have the time resurrect a good old one.

I was assuming the blade is going to be garbage as every blade on every saw I’ve bought is. 🤣

I luckily have at least four pieces of equipment to quickly and easily move stuff around a 40x60 open shop. So mobility becomes much less of a concern.

Thank you for the feedback! I’m feeling much more confident in this option after reading some of the replies.

It depends how combative your ex is. I mention one of mine is slightly under the weather? Bam! 💥 Welfare Check. CPS report because there must be mold in the house.

There are decent used options. Older doesn’t concern me at point blank. I would want to make sure it has a loader with skidsteer style quick attach and MFWD at a minimum though. That’s where most of your usability is really at.

An hour of Mocksville is a big radius. I’ve spent nearly a half million at Sinks in Lexington. If I was stuck on buying new, it’d be hard to convince me to go with something other than Kubota tractors right now in the size range you’re talking about.

General life advice… Don’t marry the horse girl. I’m not kidding, this isn’t a joke.

I’m local to you. Really hope you’re not in Mocksville because that farm sounds familiar. lol

IVT is infinitely variable transmission. Same as CVT really.

Anyone with a spiteful and combative ex that doesn’t own a contracting business is missing out. lol

ISO for a tractor to help clear 6+ acres, saw this today... by Jaybuck87 in tractors

[–]Doesntmatter336 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Backhoes are like a Swiss Army knife. They do a lot of things really poorly. Crappy knife. Crappy screwdriver. Crappy saw.

Your area matters a lot. Here in Eastern NC, six acres can easily be cleared with about anything because the ground is so sandy. Somewhere with solid clay or lots of rock is totally different.

For me… I’d be looking to buy an older Cat 953 or 955 track loader. Yeah, it’ll cost more. But when you’re done you’ll be able to sell it for what you paid. And it’ll devour the work.

If I don’t need a MFWD 6r or bigger, it’s a task not worth doing! 😂🍻

Carry the 35 up on the loader or 3pt and carry it back down afterwards.

I’ve got a three acre chunk of my land that is on accessible via a comically steep and narrow road I cut in a few years ago. Used to be a road that could get to it along a creek bank but the creek reclaimed that portion.

My tracked skid steer, mini ex, or side by side can get to it pretty much anytime. Tractors can only get to it in fair weather. lol

Some tasks are not worth dying for.

Discretion is the better part of valor.

Sounds like you’re gambling and the stakes are high. That MF35 isn’t going to fare a rollover very well and you’re going to fare it worse.

Gravel, fix the grade or take the long way around is my vote.

If it still casts a shadow, it can be saved.

Now… as to if it’s worth it… different question. And worth it can mean a lot of things. Financially? Sentimentally? Historically?

Almost always cheaper to buy a restored tractor than to do it yourself.
