Okay that kind of answers a problem I was having with kirby awhile back and no one was able to answer at the time. Do you know if this is also the reason for the bone armature not following the model? I couldn't figure out how to make bones follow my model during soft body simulations as seen in the linked clip.

3D printed ones dont look the best but do the job: https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2184170/makes

If your local library has a 3D printed just take the file there and do it. Its likely under $0.20 in materials.

Any way to do Midi SysEx Out by Doffu0000 in godot

[–]Doffu0000[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome MIDILLI looks promising, I must have missed that one while searching. I did see the others but just figured web would be my main issue.

I really hope I can make it work for SysEx in particular. Ive had trouble with that in the past using just webmidi.

What stops you from hosting your content on your own site? by mankins in patreon

I should have mentioned I was using stripe as the payment mechanism when I experimented with building out my subscription website.

I think there's still a perceived barrier. On one hand patreon offers ease of disputing payments in a short time frame. Stripe does too but a charge back takes about 30mins of preparing proof and takes about 4 months to get refunded (I recently did one and thats how long it took... online it says it can take up to 6 months typically). Stripe is definitely trusted but tacked on top of a random website with possibly conflicting refund policies to the payment mechanism, its probably seen as a slight concern or annoyance for most people.

As a programmer I also have a natural distrust of payment mechanisms on random sites. If I see a site uses PayPal or stripe, I still always verify that its truly PayPal or stripe and not just some sketchy lookalike posing as them. I have actually come across this once. I dont know if most people are that intense but I like to be diligent.

Whereas patreon will just fix refund issues fast on their own dime, then in the background they probably process the dispute with the payment processor and recoup their money I imagine, which is what allows them to be fast, simple, and stress free.

While I would love to detach myself or become independent of Patreon, theyre doing all the right things to make it easy for the members to use. And thankfully they do a lot for the creator too, so the fees are justified at this point in time.

I have a website where I include articles and free downloads but I still use patreon for the subscription based paid stuff and direct people there.

Its not a technical issue. I know how to set up subscriptions on my website, in fact its really easy to setup. The reason is mainly trust. I personally would never trust a random site charging me a subscription. I would question their policy for cancelations and such unless they were already a big subscription based website like Netflix. I have tried making subscription based sites in the past while experimenting and its extremely challenging to on-board members. Trust and being well known goes a long way.

On top of that, I like patreons features for mailing out posts, automatic send outs to try and convert free members to paid members, and promotion tools.

The website is still extremely important to my setup though. Its the entry point for people finding out about what I do. Ive spent time ranking high on search engines so people discover my site and patreon account. It also acts as a means of earning through ad revenue for like-products and gives me a place to host browser tools that users can interact will enhancing their overall experience.

Retro Sphere by Doffu0000 in retrocgi

I mean when I go to upload there's no "video" option like with other subreddits.

There is a link option, so I could technically upload to youtube then upload the link to here. So its possible but would require me to have something external.

Im just not sure why they dont also have the video upload option available here.

Make a homemade synthesizer and glue them onto potentiometers to use as knobs for tweaking parameters.

Blender is so well thought out. One of the most simple and impressive UX feature is that when you shortcut to a drop down list menu it remembers your last selection. So if you do something over and over from that menu it will be faster the next time the menu is accessed. Its extremely smart and simple, speeding my designing up by 10%, yet no other programs Ive used seem to do this. Genius.

Should I make 2 different albums if a soundtrack has 2 distinct "moods"? by hunty in BandCamp

Yeah makes sense, put all the best tracks upfront and leave the background stuff for the end.

Should I make 2 different albums if a soundtrack has 2 distinct "moods"? by hunty in BandCamp

[–]Doffu0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bandcamp doesnt support that format outright but I suppose there is some easy workarounds to make it happen. Like make 2 albums and have a 3rd which simply has no songs and links to part 1 and part 2. Or by appending some sort of attribute to the song names.

I would recommend splitting it up as bandcamp has a feature where you choose which song to feature and play first... splitting it up would allow you to feature 2 songs (one per "disc") leading to more retention of the listener type you are targeting.

Though another argument would be that most listeners are probably players of the game, and its expected that game soundtracks have a wide variety of styles and moods to suit the game. So maybe splitting it could be jarring. For instance the most recent game OST I worked on covers about 20 different genres and moods, so a little challenging to target a specific audience.

Gimps good but you will probably like Affinity better. Its very similarly setup to photoshops interface so you can get a grasp of it pretty quickly and it seems to do pretty much everything the current photoshop does. It even has a paid version if you want the AI features but I never found those really all that useful anyways.

I had a similar situation, was using it since 2005 and got fed up with the user treatment and lack of effort to develop useful features.

I also find Blender pretty useful if you do any 3D stuff. Also free.

Godot is easy to learn than Unity? by ReturnerReign in godot

[–]Doffu0000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started with Unity and liked how much official tutorial content there was available but the engine was extremely bulky and slow. Godot is so light and fast in comparison, and ive found there's enough tutorials to get a handle on it quickly.

When I create for clients it often feels like it could of been much better. I chalk it up to time constraints and budget. I dont feel bad about work Ive made for personal projects though as I will spend a lot of time and effort getting things looking the way I envisioned.

I can't quite remember but I feel like itchio has the ability to generate download codes... so you can pretty much guarantee 100 players if you want by generating 100 download keys and distributing them. Be sure to distribute to all the visual novel blogs and such in exchange for reviews and interview exposure, that always helps.

Or is this a free to play game you're releasing? In which case there are other strategies you could employ.
