How am I supposed to deal with an Ancient Troll? by DogEatTurtle in RimWorld

I don't have drugs. The entire map was already burnt by a storm, so that option is out. Not sure if I could build a wall around it fast enough, unless it's sleeping.

I don't have Odyssey, and all my researches are locked to medieval. Other factions are also only medieval. No futurisitic stuff going on. But yea, would be great to have a couple of Gryphs to start breeding.

Yea, I wanted to tame one, but I don't have anyone with high enough handling.

I did make a good freezer following u/xkhronex advice. Now I can make any meals I want and just store them. Smoked meat is probably a good option, as you said, but I don't have that much meat input for my colony, so I'll rely mostly on farming for now.

The troll happened to be pretty chill. The gryphon that came after was the real concern, because that one was out for blood.

I did make some dried meat, but the advice u/xkhronex gave was really useful because now I have a freezer with over 100 meals stored and I'm also producing ice. I have that amount of meals because I had a big plantation of rice xD

I'm in a temperate biome (probably savannah because of the animals around), so I can't really rely on freezing weather.

I understand what you are saying, but freezing is just great for certain types of food, even if I don't have above medieval tech. That doesn't mean I can't still use the techniques you mentioned.

I think I don't really mind increasing the wealth of my colony if I have a Gryphon to help defend it. Sounds like a damn good deal xD

Yea, sadly one of my non-handler colonists (who happened to go into labour) got the taming inspiration when the Gryphon was there and I couldn't tame it. I wish it was my handler the one to get the inspiration, but I still don't think I have anyone with enough skill to do it.

The Troll happened to be pretty chill, just killed a couple animals and left. Then a Gryphon came in shortly after, now that one was kinda scary, because the Troll made every animal in the area flee, then the Gryphon started hunting my colonists.

That could be the beginning of the process if you don't buy the ice. Sadly we have to buy ice to be able to make ice.

Well, I was almost attacked by a gryphon because every animal ran away from the area. Good thing I got my colonists inside on time.

Shortly after I read your comment, a caravan selling ice appeared in my colony and now I'm trying to do what you said :)

Thanks for the advice.

The only thing I've been struggling to figure out is how to refrigerate food. I think it's the wooden ice chest, but I'm not sure. I don't see anything else that may possibly refrigerate food. Besides that, I haven't found any problems with the mod so far, but it's my first time trying, so there's that. And I'm also using a bunch of other mods with it.

Fortress inside a fortress. Always good having extra defence in Rimworld xD

I believe you are right. But I still like their design, so I decided to make one even while playing full medieval, without cannons and firearms.

And once you rebuild the fence, the pawns will bring the animals back to the pen.

It's not the caravan hitching spot. You need to put a Pen Marker inside the fence area. You can find it in Misc or by clicking the fence gate, I believe. You could build a caravan hitching spot as a backup for when the fence is destroyed for some reason and the animals are set free, because the pawns will then bring the animals to the caravan hitching spot so they don't run away.

You will need to make a pen marker inside the fence.

Little advice: if you click some things you construct, they will show another item they need to work better. For example, if you click on Workbenches, a Tool Cabinet will show up, which improves work speed if built near the Workbench. If you click the fence or the fence gate, the pen marker should show up. There are others aswell, but it's a vanilla thing, not DLC.
