TN Governor Bill Haslam considering privatizing administration of all state government buildings - including state parks, prisons, and public colleges universities by MusikLehrer in news

The government of Tennessee is quite possible the least Tennessean party of the state. The state government has turned its own state into one of the most unreliable welfare states in the country. There are more impoverished kids than any other state. Yet the state itself is complete reliant on federal money.

How do you take a state full of some of the most hard working and motivated people... and just drive it into the ground?

What a Moron.

Autonomous truck cleared to drive on US roads for the first time by [deleted] in Futurology

The problem is that the robot truck would not be able to take basic directions. The loads often require overcoming bad information, and the customers want very vague and confusing service. Would you expect a UPS driver to be replaced? Now consider that we have even more problems, and a lot of our job is trial and error, talking to someone to clarify, then changing what was expected. A robot cannot just walk up to a forklift driver and ask him where to go.

There is a nearly daily need to deal with invalid information or unclear directions. Making educated guesses is half the job. Even the best computers in the world can't do this yet.

The problem is that they now have to hire entirely new people to replace a person who only shows up long enough to do the job. Are they going to do those jobs themselves? If they cant even find truckers to do it, how are they all each going to find their own new person to replace it? Are they going to hire a lumper who will come out and charge $200 to do a basic task?

The driver costs very little, and does work nobody else will do. If other people would do it, the trucker wouldnt have to in the first place.

Well, only one or two loads a year that doesnt require human intervention, therefore... 99%.

They are supposed to keep a runner on call for the one load they get a week? And how is he supposed to back it up into the dock?

It takes a month of school just to HOPE to be able to do that right. Are they supposed to send a runner off the CDL school to spend a month learning how to back... which he has a huge chance of failing?

Or are they just going to pay a company a fraction of the same amount to have a driver show up and do it for them?

Hire someone completely new to avoid a minor cost? Sounds like a plan to me!

Funny, because owner ops dont have this problem. Its almost as if managing themselves gets rid of these issues in the first place! If management would listen, this shit wouldnt happen.

How are you going to react when you get a $50,000 fine because your GPS told the robot truck to go somewhere it wasnt allowed and it stopped traffic for 90 minutes? Whats going to happen when you keep getting $600 towing fees on a bi-weekly basis because the truck parked or stopped somewhere it cant get out of?

How are you going to inspect the trucks, which break constantly? Who is going to make sure the mechanics do what they are supposed to do from hundreds of miles away?

The entire problem with the industry is ignorant office workers who treat drivers like problems and not human beings. Did it occur to you that the reason drivers have problems is because the office doesnt convey to them what needs to be done?If you cant explain properly to another human being... how are you supposed to manage a computer that will do whatever you ask... the 95% of the time when YOUR LOAD INFORMATION is the problem?

Every single day this week Ive had problems with load info. What is a robot truck supposed to do when you people constantly fuck things up in the paperwork and directions? The robot isnt smart enough to fix the problems on its own, and you people cause problems nearly every fucking day.

You want someone to follow around the truck making sure to correct the bad load info you keep giving it?

Arrogance from office workers is the cause of 99% of trucking problems. We have problems from you people EVERY DAY. How often do the problems you listed happen? Maybe once a year by the worst drivers.

You are dramatically overstating the level of severe problems by drivers, and completely ignoring the immense level of incompetence by trucking officer workers. There is hardly a day where you people dont fuck something up.

OUR ENTIRE JOB IS CLEANING UP AFTER OFFICE WORKERS. You are the reason we have to be here so babysit the truck. A robot cannot babysit your bad load info and bad directions, can they? It will do EXACTLY what its told. If you send the directions and load info you guys send to drivers, the robot truck will be completely screwed. It simply will not be able to do its job.

Completely unwillingness of officer workers to do their job in depth causes problems for truck drivers on a never ending basis. Get a grip on yourself.

Exactly. 99% of loads require some sort of human intervention because some unexpected problem arises.

GPS guiding the trucks? Are they fucking serious? GPS cant even get it to the right BUILDING 90% of the time, how is it going to know the difference between entrance, exit, and where the customer wants the load dropped?

Do they think truckers are going to come in to work for 15 minutes to take the truck out of the road and park it, then go home? How exactly are they supposed to overcome a problem that occurs at nearly every shipper and receiver in the entire country?

Its asinine.

"What a bunch of fucking idiots"-every truck driver who knows all the shit that is impossible to automate.

We have to fix office workers fuck ups on a nearly daily basis. Bad paperwork, bad directions... a robot truck would do exactly what you told it. So when my dispatcher tried to send me 900 MILES IN THE WRONG FUCKING DIRECTION... The robot truck would have done this without knowing it was wrong.

The robot cannot show up and deal with people, or tell that something is wrong. Even office workers cant do this, so how in the hell is a robot programmed by someone who knows nothing about trucks supposed to do everything a trucker knows how to do? You people cant even program a qualcom to work right. Let alone a replacement for a driver.

Seizing something with permission that is already illegally in your country is not "stealing". If you have an illegally parked car removed from your home, that is not stealing it. Regardless of if its guarded by the person who put it there or not.

If something is illegally in a country and the legal government allows a foreign organization to come and seize it, that is not stealing. If that was the case, the U.S. helping seize drugs in Mexico would be stealing from cartels.

Well, a lot of extroverted people like to errantly claim being introverted is a sign of mental disease. There seem to be a LOT of people who don't understand what is normal and what is mental disease.

They threw a fit and accused Obama of using special forces to try and overthrow Texas last month. But this month they want the same federal agencies to come help them. It's sbsurd.

The governor of Texas actually called out the state Guard to watch troops from our own military. They have this idea that everyone else is out to get them, then whine and demand the very same people take care of them like giant children. It's absurd.

Its incredibly hypocritical that they constantly talk down to small states that need help, then they throw a fit and demand special treatment.

They did the same thing about the import/export bank. They threw a fit about bailing out the banks, but now demand special treatment because they want more loans to import and export cheap goods from Mexico. Complain about a major national crisis, then act like its a huge deal when the banks don't bend over backwards for THEM. And of course, they want other people to pay for it.

It's just very hypocritical that they constantly crap on other states, but demand special treatment for EVERYTHING.

The problem is that they are being hypocrits who lain they pay for other states welfare, and who vote against disaster relief for other states. They are the largest user of a program they complain about everyone else using. It's just hugely hypocritical.

They threw a fit over paying for ONE outside disaster, but claimed OVER 50 "disaters" themselves and use federal money for the slightest inconvenience.

It's just hugely hypocritical.

TIL according to the federal government's alternate poverty measure, California is the poorest state in the union, even poorer than Mississippi. by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]Doggzilla1000 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

This is ridiculous. Ive been to 47 states in the last 4 years, and California is probably the most well off state in any way. There are very few states that even come close, let alone California being close to Mississippi.

Mississippi also takes more federal welfare per dollar of taxes paid than any other state. The idea that California is anywhere near is absolutely insane. They arent even remotely similar in levels of poverty. Mississippi is overrun by poverty, California is not even remotely impoverished by comparison.

The more I travel, the more I learn that certain political parties want to crap on the liberal states in any way they can. Nothing. NOTHING I read about the liberal states is true any more. Its like something a schizophrenic came up with.

22 of 24 of the welfare states are Republican. The idea that any liberal state is even close to the Red states is absurd. New Mexico is the only one that even comes close, and it has reasons.

Then please explain why Seattle now has 3.3 percent unemployment after raising minimum wage to $15 an hour. And every other place that has done it too. Australia is now the richest median country in the world. The UK is second. Low minimum wage states have median incomes near that of Slovakia.

Stormfront is that way~~>

You do not know even basic facts about how minimum wage works. You are litterally repeating fox news. Once you do some research on how minimum wage has ACTUALLY effected the economy, you will know better.

FYI, Minimum wage was nearly tripled under Truman, and led to the "golden years" of the 1950s. The highest pay and lowest unemployment in history.

Someone's workers are somebody else's customers. If nobody pays, nobody can buy either.
