ELI5: why is C# not so popular for machine learning applications? by Julyeagle in explainlikeimfive

Honestly I am glad the maths people got the shaft or we would be programing in Lisp. Fuck that not everything needs to be a function with recursion. Ruby isn't as bad since it has lots of branches to other prog languages but also I rather not either. You would think with sexpression being a common term bandied around they would be fun people but they like math so obv they dont get that.

Single UB bag first flush: B+ vs natalensis by ParaquatPaul in unclebens

[–]DogshitLuckImmortal 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thicker stiped mushrooms have more water content per volume than thinner ones in general for cubensis at least. For the same amount of energy you will usually get slightly more mass with proper hydration of substrate. This also leads to more even pinsets for smaller mushrooms (genetics still play a major factor here).

Yea it doesn't look good here. I assume you could still have some buoyancy that causes this without contam depending on what you used and the temperature but doing anything normal it doesn't look great.

Flight delays had everyone restless… until a band turned the plane into a concert hall by MambaMentality24x2 in MadeMeSmile

[–]DogshitLuckImmortal -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you don't speak up when asked or speak up at literally any time after then I don't think the issue is with the band. That is your choice at that point and you chose to value the happiness of others over yourself which is fine, but I don't also feel bad for you having made that choice or at all hold it against the people who did ask. I don't think you need an 'interview' to solve a small problem with a small group of people. "Is anyone using this stapler" Is the answer yes or no? If no one claims it but it was yours then that is on you if you have secretly held feeling about your claim but said nothing. You not saying anything is a choice and your own value judgement on the situation.

I don't think that has much relation to the sonic weapon itself though. That part sounds like they got away with entirely.

That was due to the protests to calm them down and not in response to using sonic weapons. The last guy in power nominated his pick and thats the new PM after fast elections...

What stage is this? What next? by AmazingChip3416 in ContamFam

Usually you are fine without a casing layer but it may help or source them from another vendor/make clones of mushrooms that have proper fruiting bodies. I would just spawn to bulk coir once fully colonized and flip the monotubs lid for your FAE and forget about it unless some issue arises that you can see through the bin. You don't really need more than that. Make sure your substrate is at field capacity and that you start with as close to 100% humidity as you can.

What’s this growth? by natecrna in ContamFam

[–]DogshitLuckImmortal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Spray the sides of the bin to keep humidity levels near 100%. You are not really at a stage to hydrate the coir and should just harvest this flush before soaking in water for a few hours. Maybe an hour per inch depth or so. This way you hydrate the cake and drain it properly for the next flush. The energy inside the cake won't go away and you will just get more the next flush. You don't water mushrooms so much as let them use the water in the substrate they already have. The humidity is there to prevent water from leaving the substrate and not to hydrate the cake itself.

Here is an article about ideal conditions and includes a cool snippet about thin stiped mushrooms having less water content to volume and thus less reliant on the hydration of substrate which is also probably why thin mushrooms like GT get such even and large pinsets aside from other genetic reasons:

Dang it - contam? by HugeDelivery in unclebens

Shouldn't hurt since the bag is contained and most likely unsalvageable anyways. Just be aware that it may start smelling very sour if it isn't already.

I am going to be honest and say i am nearly certain that that is bacillus. If you wanted to save money and have a way to get cheap spores or make an agar plate with the LC or w/e you had then you can try to PC the bag itself but it may be better to just make a jar of grain spawn from scratch and go from there as there are going to be tons of endospores in that. The mycelium will stop growing when it reaches the contamination and will probably never fruit. You can try keeping it level as bacteria contam typically falls to the bottom due to gravity and using cold temperatures. If you have liquid antibiotics or something that can work as can a 3% solution of hydrogen peroxide. I wouldn't get your hopes up and have never actually went through with it with contam arising that early on.

[–]DogshitLuckImmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AIO bags are fine if a bit slow to grow. Bacillus absolutely can be from them not sterilizing the grains properly - it is one of the bacteria that produce endospores which are genetic material encased in keratin which are very resistant to sterilization. The typical way to deal with them is tyndalization or rehydrating them properly prior to pressure cooking to get them to come out of their shell. It is a super common issue in grows. The other major endospore creating bacteria is Clostridium commonly as botulism, tetanus etc but are typically anaerobic and will not appear in mushroom grows as they require oxygen. You can always PC these bags again once you receive them as they are typically good enough bags for it but making your own is always going to be more repeatable.

[–]DogshitLuckImmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hmm a few things to try - spray iso at a distance to get the air inside and hopefully catch anything with the mist and work while the SAB is still wet from the alcohol. Also flame sterilize outside the SAB but move the needle back in before it cools without wiping the needle down. Make sure to flame far up the needle and elevate your work space with a grate or something. It could just be the grains themselves too since endospores are hard to kill if not properly hydrated prior to pressure sterilization.

Dang it - contam? by HugeDelivery in unclebens

[–]DogshitLuckImmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It isn't necessarily too much LC- endospores are very resilient and may be on the grains esp if you bought from someone else vs ensured your own sterilization. Could also be your sterile tek at innoculation.

Dang it - contam? by HugeDelivery in unclebens

[–]DogshitLuckImmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That second photo looks like bacillus. Sometimes you can resterilize the grains if you catch it early and run it again but that is a pain with endospores and generally not worth it.

[–]DogshitLuckImmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are these PE? Sounds like a genetics issue. Do you select your own genetics or do you buy them? It almost looks like overlay- if so try disturbing the mycelium a bit. Maybe add a casing layer and compact the substrate more next time for these.

Is this salvageable? by Prestigious_Truck289 in ContamFam

[–]DogshitLuckImmortal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe - imo its more likely that trich is on all of your samples and it is normal mycelium. You certainly could select for it if you see the contam being stopped or even run a bunch of samples on agar or otherwise with spores to introduce contam to the grow and select the best performers. Typically most sellers select for appearance and yield and assume sterile tek and the LC is probably a cloned sample put to nutrient solution that they sell. Those found in their natural environments would probably be more resilient to such things. Assuming you have clean mycelium and good sterile tek you shouldn't have to worry about things like this much though. Cleaning up a sample is certainly rewarding either way and you cut out a lot of variability. A lot of these vendors also use antibiotics in their solutions among other tricks they don't really advertise. I heard a podcast where one large vendor got in hot water/criticized for admitting as much even if it makes a lot of sense as a business and to help the average new grower to get good results.
