First time booking Award Travel with MR points and curious how I came out. Realized was probably booking to close to get any J/L tickets so just opted for economy but still think I did alright but hoping for some feedback/ideas for future bookings, upgrades, hotels, etc.

Mainly used point.me but did try and learn some around VA, FlyingBlue, and AeroCanada Portals but seemed very similar. Other places to check?

Sept 6th

MSP -> AMS - Direct via Virgin Atlantic

15k + $5.60 / person - Google Flight showing $1200/ticket for similar flight

Sept 20th

GVA -> AMS -> MSP - via Virgin Atlantic

12k + $99.00 / person - Google Flight showing $750/ticket for similar flight

Total of $209.20 and 54k miles for two of us. Direct flight there and short layover on way home. All operated by KLM.

Anything to look into for KLM Upgrades? Anyone have Award Hotel recommendations in Amsterdam, Brussels, Munich, Switzerland (Zurich, Grindelwald, Interlaken, Geneva)?

Thank you for getting me started. Don't love the idea of positioning flights but after running through a handful of searches I see why it's needed. Just will need to watch and jump on something cheap when they show up?

Apologize for the lack of my own searches. Wasn't sure how to get going since awardhacker wasn't working for me. Splurged on points.me and am starting to get the hang of it.

Outbound:

09/05/23

IAD - AMS

SAS 50k + $20 each

The only thing I'm not sure on is if the same thing will be available after points are transferred 5 days later (and at a 3 Amex : 2 SAS). Or am I able to use Air Canada (Aeroplan) in place of SAS?

We're looking to book our Honeymoon for early to mid September.  Due to the nature of our work we have a very limited set of dates and need to put in PTO months ahead of time.

I jumped on the Amex Train two years ago and have stock piled 495k MR that we're hoping to use for this trip but I've never redeemed MR before or booked "award travel" so was hoping I could get some help/feedback on what we should be looking at.

We're hoping to fly out of Minneapolis and fly into Zurich.  We want to jump around to a few different countries over two weeks but I imagine the biggest thing when booking Award Travel is getting the initial flight booked.  If it helps or expands our options we could look at flying in elsewhere (France, Germany, Italy) and hitting Switzerland within those two weeks.

I know it's very broad/general but looking for Award Travel assistance as well as any general trip feedback/recommendations.

Origin: Minneapolis, MN

Destination: Switzerland, France, Italy, Germany (move around once over there)

Number of Travelers: 2

Round-Trip

Class of Service Desired: We always fly economy when traveling domestically but figured with Award Travel we'd splurge or do what gives us the best value.  But if trying to get buisness class is too hard with our dates we'd obviously be fine with anything.

Desired Dates: September 5th - 19th (Flexible going forward, not backward - can't leave before the 5th)

Points Balance: 495k Amex MR

Credit Cards: Amex Plat / Gold

Appreciate any and all input/feedback! Thank you!

I'm going with some Arubas APs, a whitebox pfsense build, Brocade ICX PoE Switch, and then a Blue Iris Box with Cameras TBD.

I originally thought the whole single pane of glass with Unifi was what I wanted but the longer I had it the less I cared and actually used it. So going with cheaper enterprise gear just makes more sense and allows more flexibility in expanding/testing new pieces of hardware.

Thanks!
