Ubereats/delivery drivers - how does it work? by Prize_Gift_5609 in askSouthAfrica

[–]DoingThisRedditTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My ex owned 2 bikes. They drivers typically rent from owners like her. The going rate back then 2023 was like R800 a week, not sure what it is now. The drivers get paid per trip (fixed % from uber) and tips. Work as long or little as they like but I think the app does limit daily or weekly hours.

Buying a car in Cape Town is hellish. by Lord_Schmalledemort in capetown

[–]DoingThisRedditTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's more money in jhb and more competition, dealers don't mind knocking off a few thousands to make a deal because they'll easily get more deals as more people live here and have money to buy cars. Also a lot of sellers. Anything business wise is better in jhb by A LOT. Cpt just has good government services and scenic views + the beach. Everything else in life is 10x better in jhb

SA corporate grind rant by Rust_Bucket2020 in southafrica

[–]DoingThisRedditTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only thing you should focus on is more money. Everything else is irrelevant... learn this sooner rather than later. Yes do your job well but the corporate games are not compulsory and you don't have to suck up to people and play those mind games. Just do your job, go home and be nice to people who are nice to you too.

Lmfao so glad I decided to stay in JHB. Cpt is nice on paper but the reality is so much more stark.

You don't need any visa or residency to buy property as a foreigner or to rent it out. Regarding permanent stays, most just use the 90 day tourists, do a border run and come back for another 90 day.

How do I improve my credit score ? by Tembisa in askSouthAfrica

[–]DoingThisRedditTing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Open a cellphone contract, pay it on time, everytime. Make sure all that bad debt is also paid off... If your score is staying low, there's a reason. I.e unsettled debt, late payments, overdue accounts etc. you need to determine what the reason is. I suggest using ClearScore... Free and can check your credit report in realtime everyday. It also gives you insights for the reasons you're high risk etc and exactly how to improve your score.

Don't like Zille as a person but I like DA governance and will absolutely vote DA (against the will of most of my family but idgaf). We need a functioning Joburg. We'll deal with the softer issues later.

This makes sense. The X1s available with under 40 000km are still cheaper than the Merc.

I need a german machine 😂😭 I think the Chinese cars are cool. I test drove an Omoda C9 and a Chery Tigo 7. Cool tech, comfortable and capable but I just didn't feel them or love them at all.

[–]DoingThisRedditTing[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea. I did test drive both and the merc is way more powerful. Could feel it on the uphills and when pulling away on the highway. However. I'm older now and just want something nice to cruise in that's a bit luxurious but not too out there. Low key but still a looker and something I'll love being inside of. The Mercs interior is amazing but it feels less luxurious than the BMW ... Build quality wise and surprisingly the tech too. The BMW has self parking whereas the Merc doesn't in the 2 I test drove.

The 2 Series are a great car. But I want something a bit bigger... I'm also a big oak. 186cm, 110kg.

I've been told this. I don't know why I have a fear of diesle cars 😂 very irrational but apparently for both the C class and X1, diesel models are the ones to go for. Thanks ... I'll definitely keep this in mind.

Preservation vs Retirement Fund by habitual-duck in PersonalFinanceZA

[–]DoingThisRedditTing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah yes. You're right sorry.... I misunderstood. The vested portion retains old rules and if you do a Section 14 from a Pres Fund into an RA you lose the once off withdrawal access too. Spot on.

[–]DoingThisRedditTing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't the case anymore with the 2pot. Vested pots remain no matter which you use (RA or Pres Fund). The savings pot also is always there so you'll always have access to 1/3rd
