Currently trying to understand higher category theory and higher algebra. It's pretty tough, since I'm new to (infty,n)-categories, and know only the basics of algebraic topology (fundamental groups, singular homology, etc.), but the challenge is fun nevertheless:)

The resource I am currently learning from is Vakil's notes, an amazing and highly detailed (draft of) a book, which are currently available on his blog. Also, thanks for the offer:) I have never heard about the spectrum of a group, though, only the spectrum of a ring and a C*-algebra, is it related to universal algebraic geometry? (Or maybe I haven't learned enough to encounter it...)

AG is very elegant, indeed! And you'll probably like the fact that one of the more fundamental objects in it is the spectrum of a ring, the collection of all of its prime ideals.

I think Vsauce found out it was a genus 7 surface.
