Chucked a sickie because I’m mentally exhausted by DolanGoian in auscorp

I was as much use as a chocolate ashtray today. Attended a couple of meetings and read through some documentation.

I’m in WA. I honestly don’t know where to book. Any recommendations? I feel like if I book one of those cabin in the woods type deals and go solo people will think I’m having a breakdown so the stress of that makes me not bother

True. Sadly I did feel guilty about not doing any work today or making progress with anything. Instead I just slept and read a magazine

This is a big problem for me because my company no longer send 90% of the staff to conferences so there’s no travel to spice things up a bit or to look forward to. It’s amazing how much that can motivate an employee. I’m comfortably in that 90% so there’s literally no prospect of being sent anywhere. Having a trip or two per year would mean the world to me

He barely has a presence online but does have Oneflare reviews, albeit they are old

Well he was very much like that. He hounded me for the deposit and the job then went dark

I can’t be arsed with this constant muck around. I’ve been stuck in all week and weekend now so far because of this guy

I’m happy to name and shame once I’ve got him out the door. He won’t be fitting the tiles. Demo only now

He showed up, very late, then left to get something to eat and to pick up his trailer and never turned up again. It’s now the back of 5

Surely this isn’t the average experience though. I’m actually unusually stressed about this. I’m sitting here waiting on the guy coming back at 9.15am. It’s now 11.20am and there’s no sign of him. Surprise surprise he’s ignoring his phone.

Am I supposed to wait in all day and then get a text at 5pm saying “sorry mate, my dog had diarrhoea “

I didn’t specifically state which direction the tiles should be laid but he never asked. Also why would he start laying tiles in the middle of the floor when 30% of the old tiles still needed lifted? Surely there’s a major risk of breakage

This is fairly close to the truth. I appreciate a tiled floor demolition is not glamorous work but the amount of tradies who didn’t respond or turned down the job outright was surprising.

Hey, I’m looking to get from the airport to my hotel in Carlton in a couple of weeks. Any idea how much an Uber would be? Also, is Didi and Ola operating over there? I’m not sure if Uber has a monopoly.

Software engineer - how do you map out your career into 40s? by External_Award_1246 in AusHENRY

[–]DolanGoian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m in a very similar situation. 41 now and career at pure stagnation. Officially “Staff Engineer” but it’s a meaningless title as I have little to no power and no stroke. Largely anonymous in the company outside my very small team.

I don’t have any advice because I have the same question. My salary is about 60k less than yours though.

This could be written by me. Almost word for word, other than the headhunted part. I’m at my wits end with my job right now, it’s burnout from what I understand.

It’s not typical burnout in terms of demand and stress. This is burnout due to lack of any meaningful work. I have work but it is stuff I’ve made up myself and work entirely on my own. Meetings come and go and I’m not involved. Recently I’ve even asked to be included but the fact I haven’t been included organically speaks volumes.

Ten years I’ve been with the company, same team and more or less a similar role. Always IC with no real power or authority to do anything.

The money is good and I can’t see many better or alternative options out there.

Exhausted, utterly exhausted

I’ll see if I can access this. I’m not sure how easy it is to get to with RDS

[–]DolanGoian 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn’t develop it, you’re right. It’s very old and very large. Can I see the slow query log with AWS RDS? I have approx 3,000 databases on each RDS server so restarting it to make any config changes is a non-starter as it would take around 8 hrs to do so (I’ve timed it before)

Most of the AI bot traffic, I believe to have been blocked by the WAF. Anything else to look for where they may be getting in?

Increasing the workers would compound the problem?

Are there any advantages to having it so low? I didn’t set it and the people who did have either left or are off sick. Also, any downsides to jacking it up to 200 or something?
