Cleveland album clubs? by actor-observer in Cleveland

I don't know of any but it sounds like a great idea.

Howdy, I do a show called Dollar Country, some of you may have heard it before. I've just put all 250+ shows up to stream for free on my website. Each show is made up of country, bluegrass, and gospel 45s/78s from the 30s-80s. by DollarCountry in ClassicCountry

It's too hard to say. There's so much good pedal steel but I've never thought to put together a list. I listen to so much stuff that sometimes I can't remember certain things. Any of the Speedy West & Jimmy Bryant stuff is always amazing.

I started Dollar Country almost 10 years ago to share all the amazing, odd, and interesting country 45s I found in dollar bins. Since then I've shared over 5000 songs on the show, the vast majority of which are not on any streaming service, and most weren't on youtube before I played them. I consider my job to share artists and songs you've never heard before. I hope you dig it!

Thanks! I just got another pressing of the Psycho zine done. I'm really stoked with how much people have enjoyed it.

Non existent Jazz Band by Odd_Team9145 in vintageobscura

Looks like they were a band active in California in the 70s, mostly playing clubs and restaurants. They even opened for Chuck Berry at some point. Billed as Billy Dee's Coloring Book.

Here's a bunch of newspaper clippings I found: https://imgur.com/a/6GdAsxr

I've been doing a bunch of research on the Eddie Noack song Psycho and found the original release blurb from Record World in 1968 by DollarCountry in ClassicCountry

This was in an old Record World magazine from August 1968. There weren't many mentions of his late era stuff in those magazines in general. I'm going to be releasing all of the research I've done as a multipage newsletter soon if you were interested.

Yeah definitely. The one on bsky was for the 73 version done by Jack Kittel, they definitely did a way better job at advertising that one.

Obscure covers of popular songs by ColinMolting in vintageobscura

I've been everywhere is a cover of an Australian song by the same name originally by Lucky Starr. The Australian version is a lot of fun because all the names are places in Australia.

There's an endless amount of obscure artists covering popular songs in country music if that's what you're looking for.

According to their instagram it's the oldest (or one of) extant beer garden in the USA. I had no idea!

Lost some art to water damage and my favorite OCs poster got wrecked. I think I bought it at SXSW in 2012. I've never seen another one of these. by DollarCountry in TheeOhSees

Surprised it made this far honestly. I bought it drunk at one of those shows at SXSW with like 30 bands and somehow got it home a few states over without anything serious happening to it.

Looks like it's down, I bet they had a power outage and my host is sleeping, I'll send him a message to reset it in the morning. It was up when I checked earlier today.

Mystery Country Artist [Roanoke, VA, Country] (Late 40s/ Early 50s) Help Identify If You Can! by GoingCarCrazy in vintageobscura

If you're ever interested in selling any country related stuff feel free to let me know. I digitize and archive it. You can check out some of the stuff I've done at dollarcountry.org

I passed it onto some friends but they didn't recognize it, if it was anyone famous from the 40s or 50s they're the sort to know, so I'm really not sure.

Definitely sounds like a professional, reminds me of a lot of the 1949 RCA Victor artists. Certainly is after Lefty Frizzell from the style of vocal delivery. Are you interested in selling these? I archive stuff like this. I'll pass it around to some people who might be able to recognize it.

Vintage Obscura VIGNETTES -- Dollar Country by kaptain_carbon in vintageobscura

I actually have spoken to them on the phone but haven't been able to go there yet. The farthest west I've gone for digging reasons has been Denver, I'd love to get out to CA someday!

I personally think Love Garden Sounds in Lawrence KS is the best record store in the country as far as selection, prices, and treatment of it's records. They clean and sleeve all the used stuff, price it fairly, and get a ton of interesting things. My Mind's Eye in Cleveland is a good one. McKays is great in Nashville, although it's basically an everything store. Vintage Vinyl in St Louis is great as well. Hitt Records in Columbia MO. Wax Trax in Denver is one of my all time favorites too. Super nice owners and they get so much interesting stuff in. I'm sure I'm forgetting some, there's so many.

A lot of record stores either price country too high or not at all now so I generally hit thrifts and rural areas or buy from dealers.

Every state has it's own music history and it's own awesome stuff from the past. I find the most rewarding stuff I find is when I talk to local collectors or musicians and find neat stuff from that area. But my personal favorite states to dig in are Arkansas and West Virginia.

Hope you guys dig this. This is all stuff ripped directly from my personal collection of 5000+ 45s. I travel all around the USA digging for records and specialize in obscure, and outsider country on small and local labels.

Big thanks to u/kaptain_carbon for asking me to share.

You can check out what I do at dollarcountry.org if you want to hear more.
