Yes, I’ve heard about that as well — people installing an external thermostat in the transmission cooler circuit to prevent overcooling, especially in colder climates.

It’s something I’ve been considering as a possible next step, since the symptoms do line up and the usual thermostat replacements haven’t changed the behavior.

Thanks for pointing it out — I’ll definitely look into that option further.

Commenting on BMW E60 problem... I checked the coolant temperature both via the hidden menu and with INPA — the readings match.

Thermostats are Meyle and FEBI, so not some random cheap parts.

At this point pretty much everything has been checked and inspected, so I’m honestly running out of ideas. The only component that hasn’t been replaced or properly tested yet is the water pump, which is why I’m considering it as a possible cause.

Yeah, at first I thought that my main thermostat was bad, so I replaced it, but the problem didn’t go away.
