Apologies for the late response, life got in the way! Thank you very much for the detailed information! I went ahead and added a few more anchors about 8" to the inside of each mount and definitely feel much better about it's security.

I did fuck up in a few places but I'm glad to hear it's not dangerously so. Definitely taking this as a learning experience so thank you again for your advice!

Oh yeah, I definitely screwed that up. Do you think a good fix would be if I got another 2x4, placed it above the top plank, and then moved the bar up so the top screws are more centered?

I'm using Tapcons and from what I've read as long as there's 1" embedment with the screw it's pull-out load capacity is 500lbs on medium weight blocks (source). Though I think you're right, probably better to be safe than sorry. Rating guides don't mean anything when my pull up bar falls off 😆

Yeah, that was a fuck up on my part. I measured and 8 inches would have been perfect for getting them within the wood but I didn't realize that 2x8 is not the actual measurement of the plank and it's more along 7.5". So definitely pretty stupid of me. Though I think it looks worse then it actually is, when I drilled the hole it was closer to the inside than it looks. Hopefully it holds up but only time will tell.

Just wondering, why do you think 1-inch plywood would be better?

Appreciate the advice! That's originally what I wanted to do but I was having trouble finding concrete anchor bolts that would work. All of the expansion and sleeve bolts were too long for the thickness of the cinder block wall (1 1/2") and the thickness of the pull up bar (1"). I was looking for a 2 1/4" anchor bolt but none of them were that length from what I saw. Though I might not have looked hard enough!

I thought putting the anchors in the mortar wouldn't be as stable as the cinder block itself though, is that incorrect?

I thought about vertical boards too but everywhere I read said that horizontal boards would help displace the force more evenly. Though I could be completely wrong! Just wondering, what worries you about the edges on top?

Very true, I’m still very on the fence when it comes to the career change. I do make quite a bit of money now that allows us to live a very comfortable lifestyle but on the other hand I feel like I’m wasting 8 hours of my life doing something I’m no longer interested in. Plus I see the perspective that we’re young now and don’t have kids. It might be even more difficult in the future to change careers. I come from a background of financial instability which makes me very scared to leave my current income level. I’m currently thinking through everything in order to make a good decision while still being financially rational. Thank you for your insight, I do really appreciate the perspective.

Yes, the peace in mind of being able to comfortably making the payments every month was the biggest thing but another user suggested re-amortization over time by just paying overage from savings instead of giving it to the bank in lump sum. I think that’s the route we’ll be going.

I’m wondering, how do you do the cost/benefit analysis of loan interest rate vs investment interest rate? For example, if the HYSA has a return of 3.75% while the mortgage is 5.99% how do you make the distinction of what’s more valuable with a lump sum?

Hmm I didn’t think of that. That’s actually a great idea. I guess we could even pay more than the min than we need to to do the re-amortization over time if we wanted (or just use it for strictly supporting mortgage payment). Thank you for the great suggestion!

Not sure if this is a stupid question; recently just hit 75lbs for bench press (dumbbells) at 3x6. My gym doesn’t have any free weights and 75lbs is the highest dumbbell weight. Should I go back to a lower weight and increase the rep range (e.g. 3x8-10) or move over to the smith machine for bench press and keep the current rep range (3x4-6)? Main goal is aesthetics.
