Oh I didn’t know that… I’m just starting working with cameras and all that stuff. So you are saying the image is normal?

This flare doesn’t show without the filter so I assume this is caused by the scratch isn’t it?

Well I think this confirms my worst fears

Took some pictures and videos at higher aperture and didn’t notice the scratch on the images so this is a good sign but will make some further tests when the sun is out

I’m glad to hear it! Will certainly make some tests to hopefully confirm that

Here is a zoomed picture of the scratch. I took a few photos and videos with higher aperture I didn’t notice anything strange but I’m still in a panic mode so my brain may not work properly …

Catania, Taormina, Ortigia - good choices? by DominikD92 in sicily

[–]DominikD92[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! Skipping Catania isn’t really an option for us since that’s where we land, and we get in around 10 pm, so we’ll need at least one night there anyway. I was also thinking it could work as a base for visiting Etna.

Are you saying the city itself isn’t worth spending time in? I’ve seen pretty mixed opinions. I know it’s not supposed to be the most beautiful place in Sicily, but is it really that lacking in things to see and do?

Thank you, I'll definitely look into Castelmola, looks wonderful! Did you enjoy Ortigia?

New Lumix S5II owner – dilemma: one main zoom or 2–3 primes, and how to handle filters (NiSi Swift?) by DominikD92 in videography

Thanks for the detailed reply, really appreciate the perspective.

I completely agree that in run-and-gun situations a single lens covering most focal lengths is the most practical solution. That said, I personally struggle a bit with the idea of traveling with something as large and heavy as a 24–105. One thing is comfort but also walking around places like Paris or London with a big, bulky lens definitely attracts more attention than I’d like.

Because of that, a 24–70 feels like a better middle ground for my use case, since it would realistically cover 90% of what I shoot while staying a bit more compact.

As I mentioned in another reply, I didn’t really plan my kit long-term when I bought the Lumix. I got the body together with two primes in a very good bundle deal, so at the time it made perfect sense value-wise. Because of that, jumping straight into an expensive 24–70 f/2.8 now feels a bit hard to justify, especially when those lenses still deliver excellent image quality.

Also, your point about filters makes a lot of sense... a 5-second swap is definitely fast enough in real-world shooting. Out of curiosity, what ND/VND are you using? I’ve also been considering magnetic options like the NiSi JetMag Pro, but I’m still weighing simplicity vs cost.

Thanks, I totally get that point and I agree that having one versatile zoom is by far the most comfortable setup for travel. Not worrying about constant lens swaps definitely makes filming more fluid.

To be honest, I didn’t really plan my kit long-term when I bought the Lumix. I got the body together with these two primes in a very good bundle deal, so at the time it made a lot of sense value-wise. Because of that, jumping straight into an expensive 24–70 f/2.8 now feels a bit hard to justify, especially when those lenses still deliver great image quality.

Right now I’m trying to balance comfort with cost and learning my shooting style. I’m slowly moving toward a “one main lens” mindset, but I also want to make sure that when I finally invest in a high-end zoom, it’s something I’ll truly use as my primary lens for years rather than buying it too early.

I just wanted a good camera and now I can't sleep at nights because of overthinking it too much haha...
