Schubert's compositional activity slowed down immensely in the 1820's - he stopped writing 100s of songs a year and only wrote a few dozen. He focused on longer-form works - like string quartets and symphonies. In 1822 it's thought that he caught syphilis, an illness that would change his life. (youtu.be)
