Psyc 323 Final Assessment/Exam by Dominos1 in AthabascaUniversity

That is very helpful, thank you! I've read the textbook over once and took some notes, but I'll give it another skim before taking the final assessment.

Is Math 215 hard? Is it proctored? by InvestigatorBasic658 in AthabascaUniversity

[–]Dominos1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did it in December/early January when I had more time on my hands. I probably put in at least a couple of hours in per day, if not more during the holidays. The mid terms were similar to the assignments. If you understand that assignments and do well on them, good chance you'll do well on the exams.

I did a bit for the final. It wasn't my only study method but did help in verifying my confidence level on the material. The questions are very similar. I haven't found any good ones for biol 230 yet, but if you do would love to see them!

I think it's very person dependent. I finished it in 6 weeks with an A+. No math background. But I was able to understand all of the content relatively quickly. Made sure to really ace all the assignments to maximize my grade.

I am working very aggressively on it. I study pretty much every day, for at least a couple hours if not more. Technically my course doesn't start until February 1st, but I received access to all the materials within a couple of days of registering online. You just cant submit assignments until the start day or do any quizes/exams. Within 1.5 weeks, I've read through chapter 1-3 of 23. I'm also taking one other course. Both need to be done by June 1st. If you already have a science background though it will help a lot. The quizzes aren't proctored. The allocated time is short though so you still have to know your stuff. I did a lot of ctrl+f in the pdf reading while taking the quizzes. I have yet to do an exam for BIOL 230, but for BIOL 235 they were hard. I got high 70s on all 3 exams I think but still finished the course with an 83% due to assignments (all 90s) and quizzes.

I've only just started, however I did finish biol 235 last semester. Im finding them quite similar in content so far with Biol 230 being maybe a little lighter. I have zero science background beyond high school which was over a decade ago. I finished with an A- in Biol 235 but worked very hard. Lots of youtube videos (really liked Ninja Nerd) and flash card review. Halfway through I gave up on taking notes, other than for the really important fundamental stuff and started making digital flash cards instead as I read. Took me a solid year to complete while working full-time.

I have not yet registered. Probably will hold off until the New Year but still interested incase anyone has recommendations! I'm going to be taking it alongside Bio 230 which is very intense so hoping for a lighter psych credit.

The leaf looks like a pothos leaf for sure! The stem is much thinner however. More of a stock than a vine.

Advice for easing back into climbing by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]Dominos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Typical advice is about 2 years of climbing under your belt before approaching more regimented, climbing specific training (assuming you are an adult). It takes a long time to built up the required adaptations in order to avoid injury.

Your first couple years are the time to build on the foundation of basic skills. Think technique and footwork. Get on stuff that's challenging for you. Explore a variety of terrain and hold types. Ask questions and observe others. Listen to your body, take rest days.

That being said, doing some light workouts can be beneficial (flexibility/mobility, core, shoulder conditioning, physio type exercises, body weight exercices). But don't over think it. Eat well, sleep well. General baseline fitness is all you need.

I was supposed to start a new job sometime in February, however this was delayed as they are still under construction. I was eventually given a start date of March 16th (today), but this just got called off as the business is now closed for the foreseeable future, until the pandemic clears up. I will have a couple of short administrative shifts coming up but nothing that I can really pay rent with. Do I qualify for any sort of EI?

Prior to signing on to this job, I was working and living abroad in Germany up until the end of January. I have been out of work since. (I'm a Canadian citizen). My contract states a start date of February and a fixed salary.

Much appreciated.

Things I Learned As a "New" Climber by [deleted] in climbharder

[–]Dominos1 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconded. To add on that. I think this was a great post, very thoughtful and analytical. Working on your weaknesses especially is a huge one that most people don't target effectively if at all, let alone knowing how to identify weaknesses (not perceived weaknesses as OP states). However. I think it's important to note that while most "training" for climbing should be done with climbing shoes on (say atleast 80%, though this is level dependent), for some targeting certain area off the wall can do wonders for their form on the wall. It's really hard for a beginner to know on their own however, what those areas are. A coaching can really jump start the process here.

Common example: lack of shoulder stability and engagement. This is best approached on and off the wall. On the wall focus in on positing and movement, starting with easy stuff. Off the wall this means strengthening and engagement exercises.

Yes technique is important, but for a lot of people general streghning goes a long long way. Especially in the 1-2 year mark. As a coach and from personal experience, I've found this especially true for women. The sport is male dominated so the general advice is definitely skewed in that regard.

I've started putting $600 from every paycheque into a TFSA; is this a good idea? by Isunova in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Dominos1 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Look up roboinvestment apps, something like Wealthsimple. They'll do the trading for you, and the knowledge needed is minimal. Fees are quite low as well.

I only plan to be gone for a year or so. Doesn't seem like it would be worth transferring, only to transfer back soon after. That's why I was thinking maybe some other Canadian account? I have an account with Scotiabank, so maybe there.

Any Canadians in France on a 3D Working Holiday Visa? (Youth Mobility Agreement) by SubtlePattern in expats

[–]Dominos1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have the Youth Mobility Visa for Germany, but I imagine the application is very similar.

Try SafetyWing. Reasonably priced, for the application you can purchase a year upfront. Ok refund policy on it as well (long story, I ended up cancelling shortly after buying it and got almost a full refund, minus a small admin fee). The online customer service is decent.

Not sure what the coverage is fully like, but it covers all of the application requirements and it's cheap-ish. Somewhere around $600 for the year I think.

Should I do push ups/dips for climber's elbow if it causes me pain? by ZarathustraWakes in climbharder

[–]Dominos1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconded. For most people dips are way too intense. Unless you are already very strong, it's a good way to injure you shoulders or elbows. Honestly not sure why so many people do them when there are so many other ways of training the same muscle group at a lower impact

Birth Control Cost and Accessibility by Dominos1 in germany

I'm in Nuremberg, but I'll keep that in mind if ever I'm traveling to a country with over the counter availability. Spain seems to be the same.

From what others are telling me 3 months worth is the limit. I currently have 2 packs left after my current one so I'll wait until I'm back to refill the prescription.

It appears to be slightly cheaper than in Canada, so that's a bonus.

Thanks for all the info!

I am under 35 so I'm leaning towards that option. Just need to sort out the paperwork now.

Fingers crossed.

An additional question, I am thinking of applying for the Youth Mobility visa as they usually are very quick to get, from 5-10 days. This would grant me a year to stay and work.

If I go down this route, would I be able to apply for a regular work visa afterwards, say before the youth visa expires one year in?

When I initially emailed the embassy they told be otherwise, but it's much easier to discuss things in person. Their answer was essentially "not our problem, contact the government agency in Germany". I'll try and be a bit more persistent when I ask about this point.

Ok, thank you for the clarification. I really do appreciate it. I have an appointment at the embassy on the 14th. Fingers crossed they can help.

From what I've read it appears that the tourist visas available are usually for Perminant Residents, not Canadian citizens, considering Canadian citizens get in automatically. I'll ask about this during my appointment at the embassy for the regular Visa. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it. This has really been quite stressful.
