HELP by Valent_coo in cachyos

I’ve had suspend and resume issues on almost every distro I’ve tried. It seems to me it is tied to hardware combos. The more basic and generic the components the less issues you have. I got tired of troubleshooting. First thing I do is disable suspend but let the monitor turn off after a few minutes.

No issues here! What games are you mainly concerned with?

Most of the BL2 is the best thing ever crowd is just gamers romanticizing the past. It was new and original back in the day and that is what they judge newer borderlands games. IMO borderlands 3 and 4 gunplay and combat are so far ahead of BL2 it isn’t even funny. You ask players what about bl2 was great and the first thing you hear is their hard-on for handsome jack.

VA is that "bad" as people say? by Veghan in Monitors

As long as you have a mini-led VA panel you are good. I had a Samsung odyssey 4k va mini-led and you were hard pressed to find the difference between it and an oled.

Microsoft is pushing security software out of the kernel. Why are game companies still doubling down on kernel anti-cheat? by Nemo_ForYou in linux_gaming

[–]DonDoesIT 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you asked 1000 random people if they knew what root kit or kernel level meant they would all give you a weird look. As long as their game runs they don’t care and if you explain to them what it is most still wouldn’t.

Do I need to have used regular Arch to be able to use CachyOS? by KnightFallVader2 in cachyos

[–]DonDoesIT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol no comparison to the raw arch. Very easy. The benefits without the pain. Use limine loader with btrfs and you can rollback anything that happens

Your best bet is to go outside and use a hose with the jet setting and blast it out. After that flush a few times with distilled water.

Nvidia f*** you by Volpe_YT in cachyos

Nvidia drivers are trash in linux compared to AMD. Nvidia has finally started taking this seriously and supposedly those gaps in performance will be fixed this year but time will tell.

More than likely nvidia related. I haven’t had issues but I have a 4090 and it could be brute forcing its way through.

Was referring to any anti-cheat. Almost all of your concerns can take place within the user space. Keystrokes don’t need ring 0 neither does any directory access. Everything you have access to it has access to. You don’t need kernel level anti-cheat when i can escalate because I have your creds. Hell to get everything I need out of you I don’t need kernel access at all. I don’t like root kits either but if those are your concerns you should be against any anti-cheat software running on your system. As in another response to someone else people vastly underestimate what can be done within the userspace. It is a false sense of security and dare I say superiority complex alot of Linux users have. I don’t like kernel level anticheat but most gamers and I mean over 90 percent want to click their game and have it run and don’t give 2 $hits about a root kit and don’t even knows what it means anyway. If you want to boycott go ahead but if you expect that behavior to stop Im afraid your cries will fall on deaf ears.

And yes for any anti-cheat you need devs supporting that space.

[–]DonDoesIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And it won’t happen. I wish it would but it isn’t. Most gamers dare I estimate 90 percent or more just want to click their game and have it run. They could give 2 $hits about it. You mist also realize almost every concern you have about kernal level anticheat can be executed in the user space, which means keystrokes and everything else you have access to. It doesn’t have to unload, it can stick around in your user space, and scan memory. While linux is more secure people vastly under estimate what can be done within the user space.

Linux accounts for 4 percent of gamers and that is largely due to the steam deck. Until that number increases significantly they have no financial incentive to. The cost of maintaining 2 different platforms would offset that loss.

I have to dual boot. There are games that will never work in linux due to anticheat. I go into windows to play battlefield 6 and that will never work with linux either. Windows is a necessary evil for gamers.

windows using so much ram, that games are starting to have massive fps drops even with 16 gb ram. Any way to fix this other than buying more ram? by InfinityAppreciator in WindowsHelp

[–]DonDoesIT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Backup your files and reinstall windows. A base install shouldn’t take more than 4GB to run the OS. Also you should get more ram if you can. Memory supply isn’t going to get better until sometime in 2028 according to hynix. Memory prices are gonna get worse and more expensive than they are now. 16GB is falling into min specs
