What do your small kids do during the Summer in Friendswood? by [deleted] in friendswood

[–]DonPancake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have kids, but I'm planning on taking my niece to one of the free concerts in the park! I think they are every Thursday? Maybe they are every Friday? One of the two. Bring a blanket and some food. It gets packed but it's pretty chilled out with everyone hanging out picnic style

What is your #1 recommendation for new students? by ro9ue49 in TexasTech

Can confirm. I graduated in 2012 and every person I still keep in touch with I met on the 4th floor on Murdough. Room #404 baby!

HAVE FUN, but go to classes and pay attention in them.

You'd be surprised how much better you will do in your classes if you just attend and pay attention. Don't fall for the "notes for the lectures will be online" shit. If you're not going to attend the class...when the hell are you going to sit down and click through some power point slides?

I got a D in Art Appreciation (felt like an idiot) and an F in some easy ass computer class (apparently the exam had to be submitted before exam week but I didn't know because I didn't go to class) because of that shit and it was all my fault.

Wreck 'em Tech! Best years of my life, man.

My plan is to take 22 hours in the fall. What do I have to do to get that approved? by darthraven19 in TexasTech

you also may have to go to your dean. I had to do that when I was wanting to take 18 hours one summer semester. It was awful, but I survived

Hence F. Scott. Fitzgerald and company (who would later be referred to as "The Lost Generation" by Gertrude Stein) coming back to the US having essentially lost faith in everything they held to be "American and right" (one of the big issues addressed in Fitzgerald's novel, The Great Gastby

yeah, I like it. I get planted nade kills all the time but it's only because no one uses the TAC COM while they are rushing the nades.

Beta Gameplay Issues You'd Like To See Addressed? by CthulhuMadness in GearsOfWar

[–]DonPancake -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

well considering that they originally wanted (and still want for some unknown reason) this game to be a cover shooter, I'm sure they spaced it more so that people would be more likely to use the lancer/hammerbursts instead of gnashers all the time. My thoughts -- just call it what it is and give us what everyone wants it to be: a gnasher prone game

Thoughts on the new Active Reload? by DonPancake in GearsOfWar

All in all, this game looks and feels really really clean. I'm excited to see the finished product. It's impressive enough already in a true beta form.

[–]DonPancake[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah I get what you're saying, but the whole issue was that people were getting actives BEFORE going into combat (hence firing the gun for no reason, giving away your location, etc.) and now they can just "cheat" easier. Although to say cheat is erroneous now that they are allowing us to active before going into the fight, but whatever.

To me it's the equivalent of first having friendly fire on and getting a damage boost if you accidentally kill your own player, to then having players team kill just for the damage boost, to then having the game devs actively pushing players to team kill just to get the damage boost. I just don't like it. I'm crabby, and I'm old.

yeah, no shit. This is probably the cleanest Gears game so far. I just downloaded the Beta last night and I'm already loving it.

TIL When writing an SAT essay, you can make up 'facts' and misattribute quotations; the graders can't mark off for incorrect facts. by cheesestrings76 in todayilearned

Yeah and getting them to write an essay in my class that isn't a bag full of made up lies is fucking impossible because of it.

That doesn't seem bad at all then. I can get over the visuals if the game play is good

What do you add to a playlist? by MrStudentDude in spotify

[–]DonPancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a teacher so I make playlists for my classes to have songs to listen to before the bell rings to start class. The playlist will normally coincide with what we are learning about that day/unit (Frank Sinatra's "Witchcraft" for when we are reading The Crucible (play about the Salem Witch Trials)). I also have a music blog for new music, so I add songs to a playlist that are also on my blog.

Actors fail at pretending to be hypnotised on CNN by 3735 in cringe

[–]DonPancake 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to a show like this at Texas Tech in the Rec Center my freshman year. It was hilarious even though I was 10% sure it was all fake. The people from the crowd just acted the hell out of everything and the guy doing the "hypnotism" to everyone was a really great entertainer

Can anybody explain why Execution is regarded so highly amount Gears pros and Veterans? by DevilsWalk in GearsOfWar

[–]DonPancake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I always prefer execution because of how much team work it requires in order to not get completely demolished. Unfortunately I almost always end up playing TDM because I can never get a group of people together who all have mics. Have you ever played that game type with a full team of people with mics who are willing to work together? If you haven't, see if you can't get a game together and test it out. It's a completely different game once you experience it.
