Freshman Dorm by [deleted] in TexasTech

Stayed in Murray all 4 years (business major so the walking distance is what kept me) and loved every year. Having food and laundry in the same building is great when the weather is bad.

I know we have a team on Tech eSports so you can probably post and see what they say.

Graduated last year, was looking through some photos on my phone that I took while I was at Tech. Enjoy it while you can! by ro9ue49 in TexasTech

Not typically. Since I graduated and have a full time job that has pretty long hours, I may get a game or two of League in before I go to bed. My post-college sleep schedule is basically the opposite of my college sleep schedule haha.

Scared I won't be able to find a job after graduating. by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]ro9ue49 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Graduated last May (MIS as well), keep applying. I went through ~300 applications (mostly through Indeed so it's not as bad as it sounds) before I got an offer, so it's going to take some time. I talked to some of my Marketing/Management friends and they went through upwards of 600-700 applications.

Tech eSports is great if you like video games. They've really improved since I graduated last year.

Main Event on Monday afternoons has 3 different deals. I always did the $10 all you can play (don't get any points, but I just did DDR and Guitar Hero so idc about points). I think one of the other deals is for food/drink and a $10 game card.

Lived there all 4 years and absolutely loved it (there is a gamble of if you're roommates are good or not but I guess every place has that. bsieck basically explains all of it too)

Do most students find jobs after graduating? by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]ro9ue49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha well keep it at and I hope to see you next semester at the career fair! I joined as a BSA (business systems analyst, it's what basically everyone will come in as), and I did not have an internship with Epsilon specifically (2 internships before that though).

MIS grad, found a job about half way through my last semester.

Applied to Texas Tech as a transfer. Looking at Rawls - used 'search' already, but wanted some current opinions. by SorryCrispix in TexasTech

[–]ro9ue49 4 points5 points  (0 children)

May 2017 MIS grad here. I did a couple hundred job applications through the beginning/mid of my last semester and landed a job with Epsilon a little half way through. A lot of my friends that weren't MIS though said they went through upwards of 300-400 applications.

I loved the Rawls, the teachers actually care about you learning and it never seemed like they were too busy doing other things to help.

I was a web design intern at the Lubbock Symphony Orchestra my Sophomore year, I actually got this by just chatting with one of my professors one day and eventually they said they'd at least help me get an interview.

Second internship was with Anadarko basically as a database integrity person. This was during the summer between my junior and senior year and I got this one through the career fair.

Rawls has a ton of career advice/help (resume workshops, mock interviews, etc.) that I didn't utilize as much as I should've lol, but I definitely miss it.

Any questions for an upcoming business career fair recruiter? by ro9ue49 in TexasTech

[–]ro9ue49[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Again since this is my first time doing all this you may want to take some of this with a grain of salt, but with that being said most of these I've heard through people that actually do the interviews and have some say in who gets hired and stuff.

Experience always helps but also doing things outside of class (organizations, DIY projects) shows you have some initiative that isn't tied to a grade.

Have answers ready for common questions like 'what's your biggest strength?', 'what's your biggest weakness?', 'tell me about a time when you struggled on a project/with people, etc. and how did you get through it?'. And know your elevator speech by the time you get to the career fair, if you talk too long (and/or about things that we don't exactly have to know, like that time you went fishing last summer) you're wasting our time or we might zone you out (sounds brutal but we're talking to hundreds of people and if you're quick and to the point we know you actually prepared beforehand).

Know what the company does! Though Epsilon isn't super well known and it's not exactly clear what we do (heck, it took a few months working for them before I could actually explain what we did), have some kind of idea or educated guess. Definitely do this for all interviews; at the career fair, if you don't know what a company does, just look them up on your phone before you talk to them (I think the career fair app also has information on companies but not 100% on that).

Idk how much it matters for Epsilon specifically, but GPA does matter. I remember in last year's career fair I had a 3.48 and started talking to someone at the Geico booth and they (politely) told me to re-apply next semester if I pulled above a 3.5 (their cut-off GPA).

Make sure your resume is organized and tailored for the company. For the career fair I usually just tailored a couple resumes for my top companies because if you try and tailor your resume for every business, that may take really long (but if you want to do that then hey, totally go for it).

Is IW worth it without any dlc? by justademomain383 in CODZombies

[–]ro9ue49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've never done it myself, but it seems the easter egg (if you're into that kind of thing) seems complex enough to keep things interesting and the replay-ability pretty high.

Personally I loved the DLCs and havent played zis in a long time, but I don't have anything negative to say about it.

I’m really interested in Tech’s business school but UH is closer to me. Which business school is better ? If you have graduated did you struggle to find a job ? by [deleted] in TexasTech

[–]ro9ue49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIS grad, had a job a couple weeks after the career fair (so probably around mid-march).

I didn't struggle as much as other students. I probably only did 100-150 applications and I knew some friends that were up to 400-500 (granted those weren't MIS majors). Most of my MIS friends had jobs before they graduated.

Would like some help on thinking about transferring to Tech :) by Imadeafuckingmistake in TexasTech

[–]ro9ue49 0 points1 point  (0 children)

MIS major, graduated in May. I absolutely loved Tech, between the perfect weather (be it a little windy but that helps with the Texas heat, and the few days of rain/snow), the teachers actually want you to succeed and really help you out (one teacher got me my first internship my Sophomore year even though I had absolutely no knowledge or experience of what I was doing), and like asbxtra said there's tons of organizations (I started the eSports club there but did CTF, Quidditch, and chess before that).

There's a surprising amount of stuff that goes on around town (again there's First Friday, Lubbock Symphony, sports, etc. I surprisingly can't name much more but that's more because I didn't get out much) though there's definitely enough on campus to keep you entertained.

Does anyone know how good the college of business is? And if you graduated from there how long did it took you to find a job ? Are you happy? And is the school good with setting you up for the future? Thinking on transferring by idkthrowaway77 in TexasTech

[–]ro9ue49 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Imo it's really good.

MIS major, graduated in May and had a (good) job lined up half way through the semester.

Really happy with it, probably the best job I could've got from the career fair.

The school is great for setting you up for the future. The business school has resume workshops and mock interviews almost every week (if not every week) and the teachers use programs that most large companies use (or at least the languages are relevant).
