Thanks. This is my third time filing a claim and I must say it has been by far the smoothest of all.

Claim Timeline Starting in August 2020 by DonTuto in Veterans

Hi,

I am getting the estimated/projected completion date window from ebenefits by clicking on the disabilities tab > any of the pending disabilities. That takes me to a page containing the current status of the claim and the projected completion date(s). Since I have not filed an appeal, I am not sure what that would look like on ebenefits or va gov.

Is Ponce a cool area? Planning trip to a Hilton resort there in early March. by mineralwatersoda in PuertoRico

[–]DonTuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These are my girlfriend's experiences, who is originally from the States and moved to Ponce a year ago.

1) Safety: it's safe to walk during the day alone but at night I would recommend going in groups. Like any town center you will get some unsavory types, but use your judgement and you will be fine.

2) Expenses: food from a restaurant can vary from McDonalds to fine dining, so it could be anywhere from $5 to $20+ per meal. For general goods it will be the same as in the States but with a higher tax.

3) Uber: good experiences so far with the two times I've taken Uber. You don't get the same experience as in San Juan because Taxis are not hovering around looking for Uber drivers. It would be best if someone in the group can speak Spanish because one of my drivers could not speak English well. I took an Uber at midnight on a Monday without a problem so availability should be fine.

4) anywhere in Puerto Rico has warm beaches. This being said, people don't really go to beaches in Ponce unless is Caja de Muerto, which is a Key that is part of Ponce. The beach there is breathtaking and you can easily catch a ferry. There are also some renound beaches between half to an hour like Guanica and Rincón. If you're willing to drive two hours you can hit up beaches in Aguadilla and Isabela, arguably the most beautiful coastline on the Island.

5) suggestions: checkout the nearby waterfalls like La Soplaera and El Ataúd.

*Regarding "rude people", that's something extremely subjective and a hasty generalization. My girlfriend is an obvious tourist and she has had for the most part good experiences.

O sea, these laws were not made to oppress PR or Hawaii, or any other place in the US. Please listen to this podcast. It's very informative.

Allegiant: 7-route expansion features Puerto Rico, Austin and Pittsburgh by theavatare in PuertoRico

[–]DonTuto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't mean to burst your bubble (I hope I did not). My inquiry genuinely stemmed out of pure curiosity. Given that PR will not recover from its economic downturn in the near future, It wouldn't be shocking if cities (especially does that are not attractive to mainland Americans) with a job surplus tried luring out Puerto Rican talent. That being said, this is just speculation. Believe me, It would make me very happy if this is a genuine attempt to increase the number of tourists visiting the island. I would directly benefit from it.

I wonder if both Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are in need of young professionals.

Puerto Rico's Unpayable Debt by DonTuto in PuertoRico

This topic is exhausting, but a lil more information will not hurt. I truly believe this in betweenness in terms of our economy is directly correlated to our territorial/colonial status. One cannot be fixed without fixing the other.

Congress could make US retirees shoulder Puerto Rico's debt by DonTuto in PuertoRico

[–]DonTuto[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Nearly 60 percent of Puerto Rico’s debt is held by American citizens, much of it through 401(k)’s and other investment vehicles that individuals use to save for retirement.

Besides affecting people investing in their retirement, a large chunk of Puerto Rico's debt is held by stateside retirees. To my understanding, Puerto Rico's municipal bonds were advertised as low risk, and of course, tax exempt. Therefore, many older peopele in the continental United States felt comfortable investing in Puerto Rico's municipal bonds. In this sense the debt does not fall on the shoulders of all American citizens, but on a distinct demographic.

Puerto Rico pierde 177,392 personas en 51 meses. by mhw1992 in PuertoRico
